Greta_9, Keeper of the 4/4 Beat and Deep Sexy Basslines, in a strange condition Started conversation Apr 12, 2003
I used to be in a band years ago. I was a bad singer (but a good lyricist) and in the end I got kicked out. Last night, the lead guitarist from my former band played a small gig with his new outfit, and I went to see them.
The gig was good, but the best part was seeing all these people I used to know in the mid-nineties, and realise they still remembered me, even though some of them had only seen me once or twice. I bought the band's CD and they gave me another one as a gift ("There is no way you're going to pay for this" my former bandmate said, after I bought the first one for a friend), and I got him and the other founding member of the band to sign.
"To my first singer, love" said the first dedication.
"You're always so pretty" said the second one.
I found it very sweet

That was very sweet of them to give you a signed CD, and they did write the nicest things. You must be feeling pretty good about that! I'm not surprised that they remembered you so well, you wouldn't be an easy person to forget about, from what I see.

I found it endearing The way everybody seemed to remember who I was despite the fact that I was kicked out of the band five years ago (God, it's five years already!)

psychocandy I never expect people to remember me, so it was quite nice the way everybody seemed to be so chuffed I was there

That very nice. Former friends can become great close friends at another time. I look back on many friendships and see that. Timing is everything

I get the feeling Greta is very attractive looking. Not to mention the fact that she's got a great personality and a sharp mind. Who could forget someone like that?

It's starting to look like I'm looking for compliments well, OK, I've started to like myself more recently. It's highly likely that people sense that. I'm not cute in the traditional sense of the word, but memorable, yeah probably. Tall, if anything.
I'm like a teenager who is discovering her pull on men. It's rather strange and interesting to go through this stage so late in life (bless the late bloomers!) I think I've got that out of my system now, OK I'm attractive. Last night I went on a flirting rampage, just to see how many guys I could get to turn hungry eyes at me. (You know the look.) The count isn't that high - three or four in the space of two hours, not counting the shy overweight one who is always stealing glances when he thinks I'm not looking and ACTUALLY TURNED ME DOWN - hey! Never take the shy one for granted! - but I suppose it's enough.
OK, attractiveness, check. Now, let's see: relationship skills?

Women question compliments because they are conditioned to be demure and self-effacing... I'm in the process of learning how to take a compliment. I used to blush and belittle it, now I just smile and say "thanks!"
Almost always, anyway

Greta, what happened sounds great!
I get more self-esteem the older I get; I'm not the kind of female who would be on the frontpage of any magazines, but I found out there must be something attractive about me - even if it took me years to accept that, now I do appreciate it very much.
My boyfriend is 22, that is almost 16 years younger than me, sweet little punk he is; at the moment I learn to know some of his friends whose mothers sometimes are younger than me - the boys are amazed, they didn't take me for 38 and start to be really good friends... makes me feel very good!

Let's say I'm not cover girl material, but any photographer worth their salt would be intrigued to see what they could make of me. I'm angular and strange, and my ex boyfriend used to say I had the eyes of a wolf. Growing my hair has probably been a very smart move. I feel much more attractive and feminine with long hair, although I sometimes miss the convenience of short, washn'n'go hair...
I'm attracted to younger guys, too But I won't go out with them, because I don't feel they're mature enough (this is Italy, remember... everybody's still living with their parents... added fear factor, I live on my own.)
At the moment, I really feel no need to be with anybody but myself.

My Ben is very grown-up for only being aged 22, but I wouldn't date with the other laddies - they're just friends, it's only they accept me as a friend even though I'm so much older.

What a nice story, Greta. Obviously you're unforgettable, in a good way!
Oddly enough, I had a similar experience the other day. I went to see Buzzcocks (a much-loved veteran punk band - see A595415 for details) play at a club in Leeds. I'd gotten to know them in my days as a music journalist, but had lost touch recently while I was in my phase of being a full-time . I'd reviewed their new album for collective, so I managed to get backstage passes for the show, which was pretty damn good.
Afterwards, I went to the dressing room a bit nervously. I couldn't have blamed the band if they'd forgotten all about me - I hadn't seen any of them in about four years, and they must meet new people all the time. But I was warmly welcomed back, and various remarks about past encounters made it clear that they actually did remember me. I went back to their hotel with them and stayed up into the small hours drinking and chatting. I've done that with bands before, but this is the first time that I can remember it all, since I was on Diet Coke!
When we finally called it a night, Steve Diggle the guitarist gave me a goodbye . It is amazingly when someone whose music you've been enjoying for 25 years does that!
