h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Last night I went home, printed out three copies of the first chapter of my latest novel and a cover letter, and put them in three envelopes addressed to three of the many publishers in Italy who may potentially be interested in my work. Then I e-mailed a colleague's friend, who works in Rome and is the person in charge of writing out book reports for publishers.

This morning I sent the envelopes off and got an e-mail back from the guy, who says OK, send it this way.

Dreaming is all good and well, but dreaming won't get me anywhere. Action is where it's at. I know I'm good, good enough to enjoy national publication and be a real writer. I know I can do it. But nobody can do it for me.

So no more boys. It'll be words from now on and until further notice.

Very wise. I remember I tried once to do somebody else's best. It was a complete failure.

Of course it was. Standards of best vary from person to person...

Though I have noticed that some people expect us to do *their* best. They think they know better what's good for us, if you know what I mean.

They are often right, though. We sometimes underestimate ourselves, and think we're worth less than we actually are. Sometimes, a good friend is called upon to kick you up the a*se and tell you you're wasting your talent.

I know I do.

Maybe you were not wasting it, maybe you were feeding it? Maybe you just needed that low period for moving on?

I believe that happens too ,Hati!

Hey Smudger... remember, I'm Italian... my publisher probably won't be very interested in English-language poetry. Provided I get a publisher, that is. I have a hunch I will, though.

Terri - just don't make me think about boys... they're the bane of my existence. I haven't written back to the Gorgeous Flatmate yet, though

--but keep copies & turn it into a story, so whatever happens, his existence won't have been wasted!

By the way, do these boys ever turn into men? And if they do, is that any better? sadly, I suspect not!
