h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Well, I like cephlods... I remember being at an aquarium, Sea World, I think, that had a display of cuttlefish. They were just floating there with their tenticles hanging loosly so I sort of drooped my fingers to imitate and brought the hand up to the class. I didn't touch the glass so I'm pretty sure the cuttlefish actually saw and reacted to my hand. It was the coolest thing! Two of it's outer tenticles were immediately raised and bands of color went streaming up and down it's body and tenticles. It was amazing just the how fast the color changes take place! I've also heard the they use color change as a means of communicating, and for creatures with such well developed eyes, I tend to agree. Also, I've seen octopuses (octopi?) change their skin texture and color to match the substrate under them.
