The riddle was a satirical piece that was similar to the sort of the thing they do on quiz TV. The channel with impossible to answer questions!!!

This reminds me of that Tom Cruise film "Vanilla Sky". The one where you're totally confused as to what's going on and they have to tell you, as you'd NEVER figure it out for yourself....
