Just back from a 10cc concert - wow!
OK, it was Graham Gouldman and friends, but I'd forgotten just what fabulous songs those guys wrote - not so much verse-verse-chorus-verse-chorus-keychange-chorus as overture-first act-aria-entr'acte-denouement-reprise.
Opening song - Wall Street Shuffle - rather prophetically, the first single I ever bought.
Continued with Life is a Minestrone, Good Morning Judge, Silly Love, I'm Mandy Fly Me and I'm Not in Love, before an acoustic section where GG played some of the 60s hits he'd written for others;
Bus Stop
No Milk Today
and
OMG
For Your Love
Some biogs suggest that his Jewish upbringing influenced the very minor key stuff he produced in the early days.
Back with The Dean and I, Donna ( the one 10cc song I really dislike...but at least they'd updated the brrr brrr phone sound with the Nokia ringtone), The Things We do for Love, and finishing with Dreadlock Holiday, and the last line changed to "I don't like Belfast" Wonder what they do in a town with more than 2 syllables, eh?.
Encore was Rubber Bullets - brave playing that here, we thought!
Happy Birthday Dai, hope you enjoyed your pressie as much as I did

I must run around here with my head up my ..... well, you know - I had no idea they were here.
Glad you enjoyed it - I know I would have.

In which city did you see them. Did they seem old and rickety? Sounds like you had fun. I rememeber all the music that you quoted!!

Beatrice Posted Nov 29, 2007
Er, I saw them in Belfast's Waterfront Hall (hence the "I don't like Belfast"...)
Not good - having to stay seated.
Also not good - not enough people there (Fizzy!!!)
Graham Gouldman at 62 looks rather sprightly - he was the only original band member there. Must write a guide entry on them.

didn't know they were still around. have to admit, not listened to their music for some time now, still have a couple old fashioned LP's, gathering dust somewhat.

>>not enough people there (Fizzy!!!)<<
Obviously it wasn't publicised enough I didn't even hear it mentioned on the radio.
Mind you, if a certain person had put up a journal entry about going to the concert *prior* to the event there might have been at least one more bum in seat.
I have a LP or two somewhere as well ST.

You can call me TC Posted Nov 30, 2007
Happy Birthday Dai from me! Wait a minute - I shall do that on his journal.
Sounds like a good time - I wonder if they're touring round our way, too.

No, not really on Facebook although I did open an account.
Bjork wouldn't be my scene really but I can see her appeal.

I'm a bit miffed that I can't go see Squeeze on the 10th December (going to the panto that night)

oh I'd rather see squeeze - although... is Jools playing with them?

Beatrice Posted Dec 6, 2007
Dont think Jools will be with them, sadly.
Ash on Friday? I'm taking my son. We interviewed them when they played Luxembourg, so we're practically friends of the band.
