Several questions...
1)How do I futz around with my user page HTML?
2)Can ya upload stuff to the user page?
3)Is there a rigorous test to see who gets a fishie of their very own, or do I just ask nicely?
Please answer me! I am just a confuzzled little newbie, lurking in the Dark Corners of H2G2...(insert violin music and sad puppy-dog eyes)

Helpless newbie? Not if I've got anything to say about it ! There is hope for you yet:
1) You futz around by clicking on "edit page" (in the goop on the side of your when you're at your home)... there's tex and guideML and whatnot, but you seem interested in the HTML... if you already know HTML then just type it into the box and be sure that "GuideML or HTML" is marked, if not there's a great page by Pastey called how2h2g2... I haven't got the link with me now but I'm sure you'll find it with a search- that'll tell you everything you need to know about what to do to get what you want.
2) You can't upload stuff to your user page, but to have pictures, etc. on your page all you need is your own webspace- you upload it there and then when you put in the code just give it the address your pictures, etc. is at.
3) You just ask very nicely.

You're the nicest person I know, Fenny.... Anyways, I've also nominated you for Virtual Mayor of London....
Also, loved that time warp thing... I always thought it was a link to www.pythonline.com , so I never clicked on it....
What a treat....
BTW, Hello Scully...

Hello.
I don't believe we've had the pleasure.
I am Vladimir, he of the gilt-sequinned soliloquy (or something).
I am the hot pie seller fo Frink's softball team, the Mayoral agent for Merkin's attempt on the general safety of London and the Pariah of Pertitude in the cult of The Righteous Knights of Kettering, Northants.
Not a very impressive CV is it?
I keep seeing your name get mentioned so I thought I'd stop by and say HI.
I also found out that you're a rival to Merkin for Mayor so I thought I'd threaten you....
Fenchurch, you'll never make Mayor,
(Despite your Roguish long hair)
Merkin's the man,
With Limericks that can
Savage you just like a bear.
Grrrrrrrr.
Was it an OK threat? Would you like more inferred violence towards the fish? I'm eager to please.

Oh, goody. The legendiferous Fenchurch is as kind and wise as I had heard. I'm done sucking up now, thanks for the information...I will be wasting as much bandwidth on my H2G2 user page as on my HOMEPAGE! (www.geocities.com/area51/keep/9467) <- blatant plug, but it's a good try, isn't it? Oh, and sign the guestbook. I have no shame.
After reading through some other posts, I don't even think I'll bother asking for a fishie. I'll jus' make my own off Paintbrush. Has a vampire fishie been done yet? How about an alien fishie? I wouldn't want to copy, that would be rude.
Ah, thank you for your help, I shan't bother you any more.. you seem like a rather busy (insert pronoun here)...toodle-oo.
stv
Dogbertful!

Hey Scully.... no, I don't think anybody has had a vampire fish...
I didn't ask for one either- way to take initiative....
May the wisdom of Fenchurch outshine us all

No, I've been sufficiently terrified. Good job, goooddd joob.
This limerick talent ain't rare
nor are the quips 'bout my hair
You say that I can't
I'm significant as an ant
But I must tell you frankly, I don't care
Thank you.

DAMN! You're English, aren't you? That doesn't rhyme, does it? Well just read it in a US accent best you can.

Ok Fenchurch,
I just read it in my best Noo Yoik American/Italian and it seemed to work.
Am I so transparently English? Am I...? *sobs, weeps like its a bad thing, which it would be if you wanted to be French or something*
Glad I scared ya though.
Grrrrrrrr.
Yeh, Right.

You aren't so English as to knock me out of my seat with amazement, no. Just enough England in there for someone to realise it. A perfect amount of English, really.... pride without wearing a big red coat.
And very scary, by the way.
But as for the accent: No!! Not New York! The other end of the US completely!
The way-down-low-border-of-Mexico-Southern Californian accent. I can't really describe it because I speak it and therefore it seems normal to me, but it's a very stressed version of the US pronounciation of vowels (Noo Yoik is Neeiw Youark), a slightly slurred pronounciation of otherwise strong consonants... you hardly hear the letter "g" or "d", but you know it's there... we speak very quickly, and most "sk" sounds are just reduced to "X" sounds... musical tone, always...much like in the surfer movies, only without the odd slang. Anyhow, as long as you got the rhyme, is what I was getting at

Doo be doo be doo...
Wish they all could be Californian,
Wish they all could be Californian,
Wish they all could be Californian,
Girrrlllllssss.
Dang da dang da, dang da dang da.
(Try and imagine that with Brian Wilsonesque harmonies instead of an English accent)
So, what you're trying to say is you're practically New Mexican?(I apologise if my US geography is "a bit dodgy") That's dodgy with the "Y" pronounced like "eh".
And you're right. I have no big red coats. I don't know why we say "carnt" when it's an abbreviation of cannot, so the rhyme makes perfect sense. In my neck of the woods we don't use the "ar" sound for "a" that much anyway. That's more of a SE thing.
I'm a linguist, so accents are fun!(Can't speak Spanish though)

A linguist? Does garlic work on you guys as well as it does English teachers?

I wrote my extended essay for the Int'l Baccalaureate last year on South American linguistics
Anyhow, no, not New Mexico, but down under Los Angeles... San Diego (I have a detailed article on it pending acceptance somewhere around this place)... it's right on the Mexican border, on the coast.

You did the Int Bac? Kew-el! Am I right in thinking that South Americans pronounce their "c's" without a lithp, and that was due to some crazy Spanish King with a speech impediment? I heard that somewhere but can't remember where...
More of a Germanicist myself, but I'm trying to learn Japanese at the mo'. I like it so far...
