Dear Batty,
Thanks for the welcome. Sorry about the "quirky for an American" comment, but over 4 years living in California and Oregon in the early 90s, the only comedy I ever saw that was really strange was "Get a Life" with Chris Elliot. Do you remember that? Made a refreshing change from that thing with Urkel in, with its "life lesson" learned every episode and the hundreds of similar shows. Anyway, I'm slowly feeling my way around the site, and I'll call on you if I have any further questions.

You dedication of your site to the victims of 9/11 was very sobering. An old school friend of mine, Robert Eaton, worked for Cantor Fitzgerald and was lost in the attack. Although living in New York, he was still an avid fan of our local soccer club, Brighton and Hove Albion, and some of his old friends from the club have set up a memorial fund to open the "Robert Eaton Memorial Soccer Academy" to train underprivilaged kidsin NYC. More info about Robert can be found at [URL removed by moderator]

Another link I have to 9/11 is that my college here in the UAE ( [URL removed by moderator]) is less than a mile away from the family home of Marwan Al Shehi, the pilot of the second plane to hit the towers. Around 20% of the students here at the college are from the Al Shehi tribe, but let me assure you there is very little support for his terrible action among his family. Although we are discouraged from discussing the attack or anything to do with religion or politics in class, the general feeling I get here is that a majority of locals are behind the USA in its war against terrorism and view Bin Laden as a dangerous madman, not as a hero of Islam.

Anyway, thanks again for the welcome, and I will speak to you again if I have any problems.

Abu Scruffy (AKA Scruffy's Daddy smiley - winkeye),

FYI- The BBC server doesn't allow off-site URLs to be posted in conversation forums. This is to prevent "adult content" sites and such from posting links. You can post them on your page, however they will be removed pending moderation and once reviewed they will be added.

Don't worry about the "quirky" comment. I wasn't insulted or anything. It's probably pretty accurate. smiley - winkeye I've never seen the show you mentioned with Chris Elliot. But I do remember him from other things.

I think you are right about Bin Laden. I have never really equated him with Islam, though. We have far too many of our own home-grown nuts for me to view other fanatics as examples of their society.smiley - ok

Pet Scruffy for me! smiley - smiley
