... and welcome to h2g2. My name is Solnushka and I am one of the volunteer ACEs, which basically means that I flit around greeting new researchers like yourself, spelling really badly in the process and helping out wherever I can.

Star Trek, eh? Suspect you've come to the right place then. Well, we're perhaps a little more fixated on Mr Adam's magnus opus's (?), but Star Treck does quite nicely too I suspect. smiley - smiley

When I look up a subject in the Search box, whats the "Status Score" mean, thats next to the entries that appear????

What a good question!

Umm. If you get 'Edited' that means it is part of the Edited Guide (everything we write is part of the guide, but the Edited Guide is the 'encyclopedia' part). 'Recommended' or something similar means it is in the process of being looked over for spelling mistakes and what have you before it goes into the guide. If it is blank, it'll just mean that it's a page which is not in the Edited guide, perhaps cos it is someone's personal space, or part of a club, or just for fun, or it's waiting to get accepted, or something.

The percentages. *looks abit shifty* To be honest, I'm not sure. I always assumed it was how closly the entry matches your search topic, but how this is worked out I don't know (though the edited entries tend to appear first). I can find out if you are interested. Actually, I'm interested now, so I will find out!

I've posted a question here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/F28171?thread=158415&post=1587122#p1587122 so hopefully, someone will get back to both of us...

Well, the answer I got was this:

The percentages refer to the 'search score' or relevance of the item in the list. There's a special forumla which takes both the entry's title and content into account and thgis is how the percentages are worked out.

Hope this helps! Hope I can help you with any other questions! More quickly too, you never know!
