Devil ornaments on the Christmas tree

Merry Christmas to all!
My question is this... My very good friend gave me a devil ornament for Christmas to hang on my tree. She told me it's good luck, but my very catholic sister flipped. Can anyone explain the "good luck" aspect? It has something to do with Irish history.
Please let me know if anyone has any info.
