The hopefully interesting story behind one of British cinema's forgotten classics.

"none of it was filmed on an actual island" - I thought a little was filmed on Arran, my memory is a little hazy on this howeversmiley - smiley I'm pretty sure that's where they got the shots of the palm trees, at least...

And (in my opinion anyway) you should mention Christopher Lee's wig - it deserved its own place in the creditssmiley - winkeye

I seem to recall they used a stand-in 'stunt arse' for Britt Ekland, I'll check that one in the SFX special.

"unsettling" climax!!! now there's an understatementsmiley - silly

It's one of the world's great wigs, I would agree. smiley - smiley

And yes, they did use a stunt "posterior" for Britt Ekland, it was a specific clause in her contract because her agent felt it was possibly something she would regret in later life. smiley - laugh If only he could have seen where her career was going...
And of course, maybe I should put in that at one time Rod Stwewart, whilst married to Ekland, attempted to buy all the extant prints of the movie in order to save his brides embarrasment. smiley - laugh If only he could have seen where that marriage was going...

Thanks for reading though, and I may well incorporate those little tit-bits into the piece in due course as they do make me smiley - laugh.

As to the island thing, all the references I've seen say not.

The palm trees were from a botanical garden on the west coast. the apple trees were imported-which is what you get for filming a film set at mid summer in November and December. smiley - laugh

Spikey

Firstly I would like to mention that I think all Christians should be put in a giant wicker man and ... oh sorry i am sposed to behave.

OK, a good review. But what would I expect of such a skilled and well researched writer. I wont mention his odd tastes in some departments as the jury is still deliberating. A perfect review in fact as it reveals all the facts without becoming stodgy or boring.
Now dude, remeber when you get that import copy, i'm gonna be there on ypour sofa to watch it.

Chaos ... panic ..disorder? my work here is finished!

Thank you, small goblinoid person. smiley - biggrin

For the curious the "import copy" Spikey refers to is a video copy of the 102 minute version that Mina was kind enough to track down for me through the web. It should be with me soon.

I hope!

BTW, in case anybody takes what Spikey says seriously, you should know he is a mate of mine so may just count as biased...smiley - biggrin

Fascinating!

I doubt you'd consider it relevant, but the writers of "The League of Gentlemen" unanimously voted this as their favourite film (on the commentary of the series 1 DVD). You could link to the Edited Entry about them here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A585353 if you mention that factoid.

Good stuff!

Whilst I'm not sure that it is relevant in the terms of my entry, It does tell me something about LOG that I didn't know, but it certainly explains some of the things in that series.

I was saddened to learn that Anthony Shaffer died on November 6th. I hope that in some small way this piece will keep his memory alive.

I love the film. All I've seen is the American version.
I like the entry. Too stunned with admiration right now to make much in the way of comment, but
I was unaware that the Scottish Prebyterians had a Police force. At
least, that's the way it reads.
