h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I'm sad to hear DT's leaving Doctor Who as I think he has been brilliant, but of course everyone has to move on, and I've been thinking about who I'd like to see as the next Doc. Apparently David Morrissey is in the running, but how about Marc Warren? I think he would be suitably zany, could also show the arrogance, humour and dynamic side of the Doc.

What do you think?

I don't want him to leave!!!! Not convinced by most of the potential people on the list the BBC had up though. I mean, like James Nesbitt...sorry, but now. know I should be voting for the locals, but no.

Heard someone say Patrick Stewart's a possible too. Maybe......

Sean Pertwee would be interesting though. Or bringing back Paul McGann. Liked him in the movie. That same sort of manicness.

I saw a picture of David Morrisey, he looks too much like David Tennant.

Okay, looking at more pictures maybe he doesn´t.

No, I didn't think Jimmy Nesbitt was the right choice either, as much as I think he's a good actor.

There's a picture of him there, he's 3-1 favourite at the bookies at the moment. He's probably best known for playing the Marquis de Carabbas in "Neverwhere", Johnston in "Peepshow" and as perpetual Numberwang contestant "Simon" on "That Mitchell and Webb Look".

Not impressed by some of the other names in the running. James Nesbitt might be quite interesting but Neil Morrissey sounds a bad idea to me and John Simm?!!

I'd love to see a slightly older Doctor played by Bill Paterson, but there's no chance of that ever happening.

Oooh that would be interesting. I think Bill Paterson's an excellent actor.
Definitely a good idea if we want a worldly-wise (no pun intended-sorry!) Doc with gravitas.

I thought John Simm would be too weird as well, especially after his stint as The Master. I think John's brilliant, but he's just not right for it imho.

John Simm will never play the Doctor, not only because he's played the Master which was too big a role to make it possible for him to return as the Doctor but also because he never sticks with any series for very long. If he played the Doctor he'd be expected to stick with it for at least three-four years (I don't think they'll be any more Eccleston-tyle one-series Doctors in the future).
