I've just been on the Independent website and discovered that they piut the columns of Mark Steel online. They're very good columns, which while humorous also take a sharp satirical look at the news. Today's is http://argument.independent.co.uk/regular_columnists/mark_steel/story.jsp?story=497582

Mark Steel is excellent. I've never read his columns, but his 'lectures' on BBC4 are brilliant!

Agreed, he's excellent. I saw him several times on the comedy circuit when I lived up in Sheffield, and at least once since I've lived down south.
As for his BBC4 things, I keep missing them as I'm not used to having additional channels on my telly and I can't keep track of what's happening where and when

Ah, the lectures are good, yes.
His column's every thursday in the Indy, and every week he's both humorous and thought provoking.
