I am feeling rotund and tight after a gastronomic feast at R's house. It was the moon-faced Juan's birthday and roast dinner and cake with strawberries and cream were on the menu, as well as an extraneous couple of gins. After numerous intrusions into the kitchen by Juan, the pair had to be separated to prevent them fighting like a pair of Kilkenny cats.
The Fletcher family were there en masse, plus Alison's Australian history teacher partner. The atmosphere was festive and genial, but I nevertheless beat a hasty retreat at six, when DDA arrived to cart me home.
Princess Stefania was over for the weekend. We did the Turkish Delight on Friday night. The food was tasty and wholesome, although the rum baba at the end pushed me into nausea. On Saturday we visited the Whitworth art gallery and then went on to worship Mammon at Primark and TKMaxx. In the evening, we saw the new Robert Altman film, Gosford House, at the Cornerhouse. It was long and lush, subtly observed, and with all the British favourites - Richard E Grant, Michael Gambon, Kristen Scott-Thomas, Charles Dance et al.

"The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers."
