I suppose if I go to Aus/NZ I won't look for polite people there. For if you are any representative of their nation, than they must all be complete A##holes!

So here is some free advice, leave out the polysyllable insults and call a spade a spade. Your pseudo superior comments are if nothing else insulting to the rest of your country. If I were a Kiwi, I'd be insulted to tread the same soil.

The US is now firing missiles on Afghanistan for hiding and supporting terrorists. Does that mean that Britain can now fire missiles at the US for their ongoing support for the IRA?

Perium as a self-confessed barbarian, you would feel right at home in Aus/NZ. Anzacs along with Poms, Krauts and Froggies are part of the glorious American-led forces-for-freedom bombing Afghanistan into the 21st century.

Its' been said, in US circles, that we should bomb Afganistan into the stone age.....from what I've seen and heard, that would be an improvement.

To give a little insight into the "Redneck" attitude about the situation, I offer this bit of wisdom.....

The trouble is, I can't say I disagree with that attitude. It seems the demands of the factions in the Middle-east are not possible to satisfy.

They could fight their wars between them from now on, with no interference from us.....but one of their own made the mistake of involving us directly.....I'm sorry. We must now do something. We can't just sit here.

We are all involved. We were all involved, indirectly, before September 11. And we were all involved not only in the Middle East, and not only in the wars and fights we see on the News, but in the wars and fights, and deaths, that we *don't* see.

"One of their own..." We're all related. Not only the people in each nation, but going back to our roots. I don't subscribe to a tribalism theory.
"...involving us directly" Us? What us? The entire world? The fifty-odd countries represented by the victims? Surely not just America, on whose soil the dust of war fell?

I've been taking exception to the title of this thread for too long. In my estimation, Love Islam sends the right message, and Hate America sends entirely the wroong message. What about Love... Love..., for a different song?

I hope for love and peace and justice. I think that understanding has to be a big part of that. Fennys right, we are all involved. No man or woman is an island. We're all lucky enough to be alive on this planet except for those being bombed. Its true that we need to fight for peace, and I accept that in situations of self-defence it can be appropriate to use force, but to call ourselves 'civilised' that force must be controlled, legitimate and targeted.

There are times when governments are called upon to make judgement calls along moralistic lines. Is the death of 6000 Americans to be avenged by the deaths of 6000 of the Taliban? 60 000 Afghans? Will the bombing really stop terrorism - I suspect that Bin Laden is deeply hidden at the moment, and Afghanistan is notoriously difficult fighting territory.

I just have a thousand more questions... Meantime I'm praying for peace.

I totally agree with you Fenny, and you know I do, But Fairly Strange has hit the nail on the head concerning the inability to satisfy the factions in the Middle East.

Bin Laden has now made the Israel/Palestinian issue a pivotal point of his continuing war against the US and its Allies. (Incidentally bin Laden in the Islamic Front Movement's statement back in 1998 used the expression Crusader/Zionist - Bush simply responded in kind) The original Charter for Palestine, and the more recent draft Constitution states in its Articles that the legislated laws will be enacted by Sharia. Sharia is the Sunnahs of the Koran. A Palestinian interpretation of one particular section reads, "In the end Israel will disappear as the Koran states. From the standpoint of the Koran, there is no place for Israel and its existence is not justifiable". This statement was made by Jihad leader, Ramadan abdalla Shalah. This is the Koranic underpinning of legislation that frames the constitutions of Islamic states. The biggest getout clause in existence.

The Koran also exhorts Muslims not to treat with Non-Muslims. The Hardliners take this to the nth degree. You can shout peace and love till the cows come home but the Hamas faction will not listen to anything that smacks of compromise.

the Islamic Jihad movement leader "Ramadan Abdalla Shalah" was stateting what he understand of the Quran, he is NO Islamic scholar, he is simply a leader of a movement in the occupied territories.

Islam never exporhts Muslims not to treat with non Muslims,
Muslims have and continue to deal with all non-Muslims, esp Christians and Jews "people of the Book"
then you come to mix Hamas with the Jihad, two different organizations with two different political agendas,
there is always hardliners in all societies, not only Islamic hardliners, for example (mass murder aka the prime minister of Israel Ariel Sharon and the Jewish extremist who murdered the ex-prime minister Yitzhak Rabin)

btw, why does Israel continue to occupy the 1967 lands? why does it continue to install settlements in these occupied territories and continue its “terrorist” acts of murdering civilians, bombing of houses, some while their owners and their families are still inside?

The modernist movement in Islam has opposed the traditional view of Sharia stating that the law cannot be changed by man, insisting that it should be applied to the actual situation and new ideas, meaning that new interpretations are allowed.
