I'm so surprised to find this and thank you!
My hubby and I only recently discovered Ultra Violet when the Sci-Fi Channel ran the series and thoroughly enjoyed it. I recently described the series to a friend who hadn't heard of it as a bit like the 90's television series, "Between the Lines", but with vampires.
We were a bit "miffed" to find that there wasn't any follow up series to watch though.
As you have said, I'm not too enthused about the idea that it's being remade for the US market but will be interested to see the final result if it's ever released over here.

It was a great series - wasn' it? I was also gutted to find that they weren't going to follow it up, as it was one of the few English produced programs that was actually as good (or better) than the American produced SF. It does seem that we import so many American programs of this genre (Buffy, Angel, Star Trek, Andromeda(sp?), etc..) that there is obviously a market for it - and yet we stick to making EastEnders and other really rather depressing soaps.
I guess with episodes coming in anywhere between $150,000 and $1 million to make we just aren't prepared to take the risk... And who can blame them, I'm not sure I would!
Oh well....

Thanks I am glad you like the entry.
When I first saw this series on channel 4 I thought it was brilliant and I was really disappointed at the lack of a follow up series. But when I got myself a copy of the DVD I remembered how good it was and felt it definately deserved an entry.
I agree some of the companys are just not willing to take the risk with UK SF, which I think is a real shame as in fact there have been several really good ones that never quite got the chance they deserved, like Ultraviolet.
Oh well it may get better, fingers crossed.

The last I heard of the US version, it was in the process of being camped up and otherwise Buffified, with the only survivor of the Uk version being Idris Elba (a slightly odd choice as he was by far the least camp thing in it). I wonder if the government-run vampire slaying project in Buffy was the result of someone seeing tapes of UV?

Does anyone happen to know whether the production company or director were the same (or employed any of the same) people as those used for "Between The Lines" and "The Edge of Darkness"? It may be my senile imagination, but there seemed to be many similarities...

UV and Between the Lines were both produced by Island World, one of the leading UK indie drama producers. If there are any production similarities between UV and Edge of Darkness I'm not aware of them (UV was writer/director Joe Ahearne's first major assignment), but I sort of see what you mean...

Thanks for that snippet of information! It's nice to know that I'm not quite senile (or insane) - yet!
