I think The lord of the rings is my best film also.( I like starwars too!)
Hope you get to do your films. I know a person that is interested in the same things as you, she is called: child of saunoloa on h2g2 and if you want to know a little about finnskogen (a forest) then you should tell her about your filmmaking interests.!!!!Just a tip!

Well one of my favorites is Ramond E Feist, especially The Riftwar Saga, The Serpentwar Saga and the Empire series.
But if you really like books which make you think you may prefer Ian Irvine. 
Although personaly I found the ending to the last book in the View from a Mirror series a bit cynical and disapointing.
