Cold hands at work: furnace has been off since Friday night

Post 1

I got to work at 9 on Monday morning to find that the building was 48 degrees. Some smiley - weird person turned the furnace off Friday night. smiley - bleep

When we did get the furnace on, not all of the registers were pumping out heat. Apparently, different registers have their own independent thermostats, and somehow a lot of them had gotten turned off. smiley - bruised

I was able to manage by wearing my coat, but my hands have been cold almost all day. I've been clumsy and slow getting anything done because of this. smiley - sadface

The only way I could warm up was to go outside, where it was actually warmer. smiley - erm

Dear Paul H.

You poor guy. I have missed you on this web site.

I hope that you have managed to get all the thermostats working now. My flat also has independent thermostats and it is jolly difficult to get into the various rooms in my wheelchair - theh try and see what the thermostat is registering. !!

Ah dear!!
Well, hope you have warmed up by now. we had eight inches of snow yesterday. Mind you it seems to have melted on the hills behind us - I think they are called the North Downs but am not certain.

My grand daughter is in India- Delhi. I think she is very brave going by herself although she is meeting her pareants( my daugher and her husband) later on during the holiday. I need to know the new names of all the places so must try and find these on the Internet. !!

Kind regards

Christiane.

My sympathies Paul, hope you've warmed up by now.

I have to smile at the coverage of the snow by the media.
Most of the six o'clock news was devoted to what my friend in Toronto
calls, "a sprinkling of snow".

The Guardian devoted seven pages in the broadsheet section and five
in the G2(magazine)section to it.

I used to work in a granite quarry when I was an apprentice and when
I complained about the snow and ice the old timers always asked,
"what will you do when winter comes?"

Pierre de la Mer ~ sometimes slightly worried but never panicking ~

in november 1970 i was sitting on the deck of a ship in the middle of the north sea hammering away at rust so we could get the ship painted

now *that* my friends was - well - a bit chilly...

but i understand paul. my father was a librarian too and told us about how he had to w*rk in the harsh winters of the late 1940's: there was no heating because of the war and the books felt like lumps of ice. your hands and wrists would be in pain for hoursbn after w*rk

Beta blockers keep my hands from getting the circulation they need, so I feel the cold more than most people. My torso was never particularly cold.

Yes, AR80, I heard that London got 7 inches of snow, which paralyzed the whole place because they don't even have snowplows. smiley - evilgrin
We seem to have gotten at least that much snow here since last night. It just seems like the usual twice-weekly storm that we get between December and March. smiley - whistle

I agree, prof, but I'm sure a lot of people don't know how to use snow shovels. smiley - winkeye

I don't think it's all that easy for a cop to be out in this weather.

Jabberwock

When I were young in school an' it started snowing heavily, we had to strip to our underwear, run three times round the school and then go and lie down in the snow for seventeen hours, until the Head rang the hand-bell. Sometimes he'd forget. Youngsters of today, they've no idea.

And your Head had at least one hand (otherwise he couldn't have rung the hand bell). When I was a lad, Heads barely had necks.

That's because too many newspapers are going under, or at least getting pushed to the brink of insolvency
