I am truly amazed to see that my previous life in L.A. has receded so far into memory that it seems almost as everything that I did out there really happened to someone else in another lifetime.
L.A. is, of course, the armpit of the nation, but it does seem as if I really did die in that car accident and that I am speaking of someone else when I show the films or refer to events that took place before 1999.
(I was in a near fatal automobile accident in December of 1999 and told my employers that I was leaving the city immediately after finishing my contract, which I did in August of 2000. Disney treated me with great kindness during my recuperation. I got back to work as soon as possible, which didn't hurt, unlike my leg and pelvis and ribs.)
I am actually doing my first career retrospective in Denver in August of this year. This makes me feel as if I am pronouncing my own eulogy.
Savannah is a very odd town and it is reported to be rife with voodoo. People who mention this do so with a perfectly straight face. There is definitely a presence here. I wouldn't say that it is the Land of the Lotus Eaters, but crab boil, devil crab, and Georgia ice cream (grits) are a pretty fair substitute for the waters of Lethe.
It is incredibly beautiful and I do like the people. There are undertones (why else would the best known book about the place be a murder mystery?) but the fact that it is so out of character for the city made the book notorious.

Hi, Fred! I'm from Georgia, too... Griffin, in fact. That's a little place about halfway between Atlanta and Macon.
Must be nice living in Savannah! I love all those old houses and stuff they have down there, and the way they have the city laid-out, too. Much like a formal garden, rather than the wild growth of cities like Atlanta and even this one.
Griffin, however, has the dubious distinction of being the birthplace of Doc Holiday (the O.K. Corral dude).
What kind of drawings do you do? Good money in it? I'm a bit of an artist myself (I would give you a URL to see some of it, but the goat-da**ed BBC kills and censors any mention you make of anything not on site, a waste of the potential of this kind of forum, if you ask me!) only I don't make much money off of it. In fact, I had some of my paintings dissappear when I put them in a gallery which went bust, and goat only knows where they are now! Most money I've made off my art is the illustrations I did for my poetry book, I guess.
Anywaze, I just thought I'd say "Hi", whilst I was about.

Hello there Bryan,
I am sorry that it took me so long to get back to you...I have been off list for some time. Depression. then again, humor is one way of coping.
I'm an ex New Yorker who has lived and worked in five countries, and I'm now in Georgia teaching. It's been a wild ride but I do like living here, so that makes up for a lot.
I formerly worked with Walt Disney Productions and I am what is known as a Supervising animator. That is, I design and animate the characters. I have credits on GOOFY MOVIE, HERCULES, and the upcoming TREASURE PLANET though I worked on many other films as well.
Please excuse the lateness, as I mentioned before. If you want to see more of my work, look up 'beimanimation' on a good search engine such as Google. There, I bet the Beeb prints this...
Cheers

Bryan? No Bryan here! BARON, or Wylde Bil, take your pick... ;-P
I can relate to the depression thing, I've been dealing with that for years now, myself. I can tell you, though, that it can and does get better. Can't give you any hard and fast rules or a roadmap, but with the proper support you can make your own...
Humour is a good way to get those positive neuro-transmitters flowing, though.
That's cool, working for Disney and doing all of those neat cartoons, that is! I'll be sure to check out Treasure Planet (sounds like something right up my alley) when it comes out...
So you're teaching now? I know Savannah has a big-time arts school down there, is that where you're teaching?
Anywaze, good to hear from you, and don't feel bad about being slow to reply- it took me 4 weeks to get around here since I posted that message, myself!

da Baron
