Isn't this something to do with one of the teams being allowed back in, or something. So they lost the 1st semi-final, had to replay it for some reason or other, then won the replayed match. Hence both teams lost the semi-final and another team lost the other semi-final. Giving 3 of the 4 being knocked-out. I speaketh the obvious ...
As to who it was ... the name Manchester United springs to mind for no particularly good reason other than their p*ss*ng about in the FA cup in 1999 with byes and whatever. Alternatively for some reason 1946 rings a bell as to there having been a team allowed back in ...
