Hello. This is my little wee article on the town of St. Andrews. I used to live there so I thought I was reasonably qualified to write this. Hopefully, it sums up pretty well what there is to see and do in and around the town and includes a description of all the golf courses. Hopefully its reasonably entertaining as well.
Hope you like it

Hey Orcus!
I too lived, loved, worked and even married in St Andrews (not necessarily in that order!)
I feel that there is a lot more that can be said here - I hope I get the time to add some! There's quite a lot of other researchers who also know St Andrews quite well (Swiv, Lipsbury Pinfold and Underground Caroline spring to mind, if they're still about...)
When did you leave? I'm back there every few weeks and each time it seems the pubs have changed...

Hi Cloviscat, I left there in September '98. I consulted with a friend who left more recently when writing this so I hope its reasonably up to date, for example, I originally had McSorley's down as one of the pubs but apparently its turned into a hotel. Any further updates and additions would be very welcome of course, after all, that's what the guide is all about.
Have you asked those other's you mentioned to have a look? I asked Dr. E Vibenstein's opinion yesterday and got a very positive response so I would love to hear from others who know St Andrews well.
Its good to get a good response to my first attempt at an article

Hello again Cloviscat, I have contacted the above mentioned for comments and additions/modifications and I see from Swiv's page that you do indeed appreciate St Andrews. Some additional info on the Uni would probably be good I think. Although I worked there I was not a student so I missed out on most of the undergrad things (although I did do Raisin' Sunday one year) and so don't actually know much about it on the whole. I was more of a golf/pub person as you can probably tell from the article.

This entry is entertaining and full of information. The town sounds like heaven for golfers. The economy sounds extremely unbalanced. I don't blame the locals for hiding.
A good read even if you're not planning to visit.

Hi again Orcus
I have had a go at most variations on the theme: studied in St A's full time and part time, worked at holiday jobs and just lived and worked. Work and academic background mean I could also fill in some of the history of the town - given that you can't get away from it in the town, and it is the reason for so many of the fundamental things that you mention - like the street layout...
Lipsbury used to work at the Royal and Ancient Golf Club - plenty of tales to tell!
I will do my best to put a few things down for you in the next day or so: this is well on the way to being a great, and very necessary entry!
Cheers!
Ccat

As a traveller and supporter of 'place' entries, I think this one certainly deserves being floated back to the top of the conversation list.
Good job

Wow. Just a moment.
h2g2's back. YaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaY!
Thanks Crescent for your recommendation, very much appreciated.
Bit overwhelmed at the moment, didn't expect a guide entry the moment the guide returned. *Orcus crawls into a corner and driblles happily*.
