OK, so we've never talked, but I'm following your orders...
Besides, it's an excuse to do my duty as Muse of Good Natured Nagging
Hi, btw

One definate advantage to being finished with uni for almost 4 years now is no homew*rk And it'll be a few more years before my daughter has to worry about it... (She's 3 months old)

You're lucky! Then again, you'll have real w*rk, which is probably worse.
I've heard about PaperBaby , although even if she has no homework, she has dirty nappies, which is also hard!

Well, the little bit I've absorbed of the British education system tells me that at least your school year's shorter than mine was Unless I'm totally wrong...

Could be...I don't know. We don't get half term, which I think they have in Britain. Do they? As this is my last year of "high school" (which it isn't really) I get to end before the other little people in lower grades...mua ha ha...and I shall be going to England soon as well hopefully, meaning I miss out on even more. Only a few more days left in this school!

I think we've both made the same assumption about each other--I thought you *were* in the UK! I'm in California, myself

Whoops!
Anyway I'm in Australia. Do you know how many weeks of school a year there is in California?

Well, actually, I've only gone to uni here, which won't help much (though I actually do know--18 weeks a semester, so 36 in a year for uni) since I believe I read somewhere that you're not exactly old enough for uni yet (unless you're a prodigy, of course, in which case could you help me remove my foot?)
Anyway, what I consider a 'real' school year (ie, what the length was when I was going to school) runs from the day after Labor Day (the first Monday in September is Labor Day) to the first week or so of June, with 2 weeks off for Christmas and a week off for spring break. And a couple extra days off here and there. Except the year I went to a year-round school--we got a week off for Thanksgiving, a month for Christmas, and two weeks off for spring break. The *really* thing was that we moved in May, so I didn't have to go to school during the summer. And when we moved, I was ahead of my classmates, even though I'd been at school less than they had that year!

We have 40 weeks a year school here, I think. Something like that anyway. I leave early - yay! - 'cos I have to go overseas. I have only a few days left in my present school. Did I say that already?
So where did you go to school?
If there's 2 Christmas weeks off, one spring week off, how many weeks for summer holidays? Here Christmas and summer holidays are the same, which screws things up a bit.

I went to 9 different schools between kindergarten and senior year. I suppose that doesn't help much... Between the ages of 5 and 18. Two of those changes were due to going from elementary school to middle school, and from middle school to high school, but the rest were just because we moved alot...
Summer vacation started early to mid-June, and school started up again in early September. Here in California, though, school seems to start the last week or 2 of August, which is just plain wrong

9 different schools! That's a lot! Were they all in different states, or the same state?
I've only been to......3, I think, but I change next year.
Hmmm, well then maybe we have more holiday time then where you are now, but I can't be bothered to count. We have four school terms, anyway. I'm sure we've been getting shorter and shorter holidays since I was young though!

*thinks*
3 schools were in Nevada, and the rest were in Oregon.
