The Greenest Lawns
I watch clouds race across the sky,
nebulous feelings of loss encased
I trace tracks of tears because
other lawns will never be as
green as these I see today.
You place hot china mugs of
bitter aloe coffee in my hands,
yet I cannot warm, the stiff
whiteness repels and my fingers
cannot spell your name.
I remember things, such as
kneeling for a first confession,
a pious, misunderstood expression
before I truly understood that
no one's soul is an open book.
If I chase clouds, who will catch me,
a cumulation of doubt, despair?
The sun shines on a penitent grass
for none shall be so fair today.
Just one kiss as I dandle,
fondle heartfelt hope.
They move too fast today
these clouds, my thoughts
are spiralling out of control.

Glad you're still writing Emma and still connecting the natural world with the world of our emotions."spiralling" is a good choice
and fitting ending from a poet who knows her craft

Thanks Lucy
Hope you are well - haven't been on the pc much, or even written anything much since this poem - My son is improving thanks and I'm glad your friends child is also on the mend. It is so worrying whenever your children are ill. He's now in the restless stage - wanting to do more, but still not quite up to it. Hard for him, as he's always been the social butterfly of the family lol
Hope your writing is going well - I had a quick look at your site earlier and it looks really impressive! Shall try and have a much more indepth look. Well done!
Take care and best wishes
