Hi there! Kristina isn't online right now, but she and I keep an eye on each others conversations - thanks for the info - I think the Spanish Gypsies are Romani too, because they used to have a language of their own called 'caló' which was a mix of Romani and Spanish
If you happen to be online this weekend, why not come to the Harvest Festival? Here: A810640

Hi romani.angel - thanks for dropping by - and thanks for the info!
I think I'm still a bit confused about the difference between those are 'just' gypsies and those that are 'romani' - but what else could be expected when I'm hanging around with someone like Titania? (She's the Muse of Confusion, you know)
hi kristina
romani.angel Posted Sep 1, 2002
oh dear, i dont know how 2 describe the difference without insulting a gypsy i think 1 way would be 2 say if you put a gypsy and a romani person and their trailers side by side you would soon see the difference
i did,nt notice your msg till just now bout that
im just so busy trying 2 get 2 grips with guideml at the mo
so at the moment i havent really got a page at all im just getting nowhere fast but i,ll keep trying
failing that it looks like going back 2 plain text

You seem to be doing fine with the GuideML bit - nice pictures!
Titania and I have written an entry on how to get started with GuideML on your user page: A690518

Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Sep 2, 2002
You have to use tags for smileys once you've changed your page to GuideML - the smiley tag looks like this:
<smiley type="disco"/>

i was going to use other smileys in among the text but decided it would be too much

Your user page is beginning to look really interesting! - but some of the text is hidden behind the pictures...
You could try splitting the text up in paragraphs - put a in front of and a after a block of text

hello again
for the advice, is a paragraph 1 of those blue box things that my heading is in, i hope so i like them & i will try that i did,nt realise some of the text was missing so for pointing that out.
yesterday i tried to put links to my friends in the box on the right hand side but although it seemed to accept it, the info has,nt shown up in the box i put
then the info inbetween like this then
have i done this wrong ?

The references automatically show a list of links you have on your user page - you can't edit the list yourself
...but to put a link in, use this tag for external links:
Description of link

Titania (gone for lunch) Posted Sep 6, 2002
Aha!
Use this tag:
That's my user number - put one of your friends' user numbers there instead - and note the '/' at the end - it is a 'self-closing' tag...

then ive bin tryin various things 2 link my friends 2 no avail....when i saw ur msg

Hmmm... the first picture on your user page is so big that it still covers some of the text in the second paragraph...
If I have figured it out correctly, you have a block of text and a picture to go with it, then another block and another picture - is that right?
You might try putting in a horizontal line between each text+picture block - this is the tag:
...and that's just a suggestion - I'm sure your user page looks fine in some browsers - maybe it's just my browser (and screen solution) that messes it up... does it look OK when you look at it yourself?
hi kristina
romani.angel Posted Sep 6, 2002
yes it looks ok 2 me...but then it might look different wi me using a digibox n keyboard....but i,ll still try ur suggestion anyway cos if it looks like that 2 u it might do so 2 others too
ive made a few more adjustments 2....ive deleted the disco smileys from the end o each paragraph....i thought it looked....2 much

I guess it looks different not only because of different browswers/media but also because people use different skins
To give you an idea about what it looks like in different skins, try these links:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/U200271?skin=classic
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/U200271?skin=alabaster
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/U200271?skin=brunel
I'm not completely sure, but I think that if a page looks good in all 3 skins, it might also look good in all browsers/media
