How hot is it? Four hours ago I handwashed a pair of 501s and hung them over the balcony railing, dripping water. Now they're bone dry and ready to wear, and my balcony isn't even in direct sunlight at this time of day!

Looks like we equalled the record today, 106/41.1. That makes 56 days of scorchio so far this year and 24 in a row. 106 yesterday too.

If you google "stop the environment" you'll find a Funny or Die video. I'd post a link, but you know... NSFM*.

We're at about scorchio. No instances of wildlife immolation hereabouts.

104 yesterday. In Austin highs have dipped below 100 only once in the last 39 days. We've had 25 consecutive 100+ days. We've had 57 triple digit days this year (record: 69 in 1925). We've gone 49 days with less than 0.10" rain. There's nothing lower than 102 in the forecast highs for the next eight days - most are 104 and 105.

WILL SOMEBODY PLEASE FIND THE OFF SWITCH FOR THIS SUMMER!!! smiley - steam

And we did indeed hit the forecast 103. The eight-day forecast has changed... as it almost always does.

103 Saturday and Sunday
104 Monday
105 Tuesday and Wednesday
104 Thursday
103 Friday

I forgot to mention that a few days ago we had our warmest ever low temperature - 82F/27.8C. Or maybe is warmest for the month... I forget.

Is it any wonder I can't get any damn sleep at night with temperatures like that? How did people ever live here without a/c? Why did people ever live here without a/c? I can imagine that for native Americans it probably wasn't too bad - sleeping in a teepee. In a western style building it's unpleasant. And I know there are a lot of folks in the poorer parts of Austin who don't have a/c.

They didn't build apartments like yours then. The houses were built for airflow. Also, tricks like putting a fan in the downwind window blowing out would lower the pressure in the house and thus the temp as well.

But mostly, people just sweat buckets.
