h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I'm a bit under the weather (mild though it is) lately. Today I went to the emergency dept. at the Brockville hospital because of pains in my jaw and ear. The doc said I probably had shingles and prescribed an antibiotic to clear up some secondary infection. He said it's to late to start taking an antiviral. No one knows what makes shingles kick in but I've never had it before. It won't kill me but it's a pain. Hopefully sometime this month we can meet our own GP. Family doctors who take new patients are rare around here.

Geez, my first guess would have been a bad infection of a molar. The zinging pains up and down the jaw-bone cavity can feel quite a lot like the beginning of an ear infection. Been there and done that, you know?

But shingles? Definitely not something to take lightly. Do follow your GP's orders, to the letter, my friend.

Yes an abcessed tooth or infected ear were my first guesses too. But it doesn't really feel like it is coming from any tooth and the ER doctor examined my ear and said it's OK. I haven't met our new GP yet but I hope his office can give me an appointment soon.

Count yourself lucky to have found a GP. I think nearly 20% or more of this town is dependent on the ER or clinics.
