So, today, for the first time in 5 years (yes, I know... but we moved and I just never got round to it) went to the GYN for a check up.
And she found a polyp (only 4mm and apparently nothing to worry about - yet - probably) on my uterus. I have to go back in 3 months and if it is bigger, then it will have to be removed. (general anasthetic at the local hospital)
And then we found a lump in my right breast. Which is most likely nothing at all. But I have to have a mammogram on Tuesday. And oh boy, it is really strange, I feel like I've been hit with a sledgehammer. Anyway, as I said it's probably nothing. So it's not time to panic.
This afternoon I went to the gym, and did 35 minutes on the exercise bike. Boring. I hate it. then I ran for 4 minutes, but then my knee started to hurt so I had to stop. I feel like I'm never going to get running again (and if I'm like this after less than 2 weeks, I really need help!)
But I did try the cross trainer. Which is way more fun than the bike, but it's still not running.
And now Gruesome #1 hates me because when I went to get them from Gruesome #2's ballet lesson she (#1) asked if her friend J***** could sleep over. Given the day I've had, and given that I had planned a nice easy weekend with no stress, I said "no". So now I'm evil and wicked.
Situation normal then.
*sigh*

Oh my, that's really a black day for you I had neglected my checks at the gyn for about two years, and then they found something at the cervix which had to be removed . If I had gone earlier, they could have lasered it, but after all this time, it was too large for this After that, I had to go for a check every three months for about two years. Had a mammogram last year - and should have gone for an ultrasound this month - guilty as charged, I haven't made an appointment yet

B'Elana - get to the Frauenarzt right away! (I shall expect a full report in April )
Thanks all. It's really probaly nothing, but what with my knee now playing up, and the hernia still being a pain...
#1 has gone to bed, at around 7:45 on a Friday! and is snoring her cute little head off. I went into the bath to read my book, but #2 thought it more fun if she came in too. Actually we had quite a nice mother/daughter bonding session. and planned some woodworking for tomorrow (did I mention I bought her a kids' woodworking kit for christmas! she has her own hammer, screwdrivers, saws and all sorts now)
I think it might be time to dig out a Johnny Depp DVD.

Don't worry Sho, I intend to call next week to make an appointment. It's only that the last time they did the ultrasound and then said it wasn't sure, and I had to have the mammogram - don't ask

Good to hear things are quiet on the Gruesome front. I find if Alex is tired she can be a right little madam, so hopefully things will be back to normal with #1 tomorrow

as normal as it gets round here
I'm having trouble with her schoolwork, it's (frankly speaking) not up to scratch. She has extra coaching for Maths, but she also needs German. Only that's on the same day as her ballet (which I don't want her to give up - she's good at it which is good for her self-confidence and it is activity, which is good too)
so now I have to wrestle her into doing more reading and writing. Gawds, if only i had NOT paid attention to her kindergarten head and pressed on with that before she started school.
This morning I went a bit over the top and told her that if she didn't pull her socks up she'd end up working in Aldi or worse.
Bad mummy

s and s for everyone.
Who'd be a woman?
That mammogram machine could only have been designed by someone who doesn't have mammaries.
*currently with head well stuck in sand since I'm five years overdue for a smear test. I know I'm being silly and I'll get round to it soon, honest.
Never gave it a second thought when I lived in Glasgow - had lovely female doctor - but this shower of eejits at my local practice are a different kettle of badgers.

I heard it (mammogram) described today as like lying on freezing concrete having the cold metal garage door slammed on your boob.
yikes.
I have had one before, so I know how it goes.
who'd be a woman, eh?
time for and I think.

Let's get this in the right order.
for Sho, because it really will be OK.
I checked.
Sometimes it's really easy to get frustrated with yourself because stuff doesn't work the way it ought. Give yourself a little more time and try to find the right pace for everything to fix itself. Time be time, ya know?
Yay! For Woodworking Gruesomes.
As for the school matter... Youngest was a cause for concern with reading and writing over the last couple of years. This year, in fact in the last 6 weeks, something has gone "click!" and she's accelerating ahead of the class. Sometimes you just have to work through it.
Depp DVD? Ok......do I need to bring a bottle?

You ladies might be happy to hear how wellness is approached at my current company.
Mammograms are done on-site at a regular clinic.
The medical staff are female.
The machine that does the 'gram is warmed.
I'm serious.
Apparently, having to go through it on a regular basis makes all the difference to how it is applied.
I just wish the same could be said for prostate exams.

I will gladly offer my services, for free, gratis, to examine the of all researchers who present themselves to my clinic.
Seriously, hope all goes well and that the equipment isn't too cold!

It's not the temperature of the machine, it's just the procedure as such which is so painful - especially when the reason that you're going there is that your breast hurt and are swollen

thanks all.
feeling a bit more positive today, so hopefully I can keep that up until Tuesday.
Gradient, your company policy sounds good. And at least you're getting a prostrate exam. I am still pushing to do it.
In the event I didn't watch Johnny Depp, I wish I had. I watched Stargate Atlantis instead which had some but was rubbish.
at RF, you never said you were a doctor!!
