The county of Avon has not existed since mid to late 90's (not sure of exact date). The local area now divides into several countys - Bristol, Somerset, Bath and North East Somerset (BANES), South Gloucestershire etc.
However try telling the post office that as 'Avon' still comes up when you give a company your postcode and house number so they can search your address.
I am proud to live in Bristol, Bristol. The city so nice they named it twice.
