Hello and welcome to h2g2...we have been known to tickle but only if asked !! For your general edification, occassional interest - or just cos it's a good place to go there's the ACE's homepage over at http://www.h2g2.com/A214796 where you find other researchers like me who volunteer to hunt out new users and give them a big hello , how are you and here's some smiley - fishsmiley - fish - kind of a welcoming committee.
Lots of useful links and stuff too on the homepage.
Actually I kinda like the song...and given your comment on Formula 1 with their tendancy to wrap highly expensive machines around inexpensive barriers for the sake of speed...very appropriate!smiley - smiley

I somewhat enjoy the ascii versions though. Might be for sentimental reasons, or too many hours spent on irc. smiley - smiley

Being what my computer support people call the average dumba%$#$$ user I haven't quite caught onto all the stuff like ASCII and irc...ICQ is about as far as I get.
How are you finding h2g2 ?

PS - forget that last question - had another look at your page and love what you've done with it. F1 ...ummm really think that Rally shows more skill - the Rally of NZ was graced with Mika in his rally days and that can be very exciting to watch on TV.IMHO smiley - smiley

Hi smiley - smiley

Thank you, i'm just trying to get into the guideML thing. Quite handy stuff!

About H2G2. It is just lovely! I'm a big fan of the books by DNA and when i saw this site i was just baffled by the brilliance of the of it! Sofar it has been hugely enjoyable and intressting and i've spent some time just browsing around the site.

Well F1 has a few downsides of course, like you say the skill of the driver isn't always reflected in the results. But when you watch a lot of it, you get a different feel. Even if the most brilliant driver of a particular race wins, or even scores points, you can still admire the skill and effort he put into his drive. Fact is that there are no bad drivers in F1, no team could afford to have a bad driver and when you have 22 of the best drivers in the world in the same series, it has som apeal. Well, to me anyway.. I might be somewhat odd! =)

I've actually been following rally as well. I've seen the swedish rally event on location two times and watched the World Rally Championships on tv a lot of course. It is quite thrilling to watch drivers like Tommi Mäkkinen, Carlos Sainz etc roar down slippery and ice covered winter roads in the dark forrests of sweden.

I think you must've mixed Mika Häkkinen up with someone else? Cause he never drove in the rally championships (as far as i know). An easy misstake to make, considering how many finns you find in top grade motorsports! I did read something about him trying out Tommi Mäkkinens WRC Mitsubichi (SP?) and driving a special stage with it only a few seconds of the pace of Tommi (a now four times world rally champion) on his first try. That requires some raw talent! smiley - smiley
