A Conversation for H2G2 Guardian Angels...

Guide entries

I've just noticed something about guide entries: if you post a message to an author about their guide entry by clicking the "discuss this entry" button at the bottom of the entry page, I imagined that the author would be alerted to the message in the usual way, by the item appearing at the top of the list of conversations on their home page and slowly sinking down it as new messages appear. That doesn't happen, does it? How does the person you posted the message to about their guide entry get to know there's a message for them? Do they have to keep checking each of their entries to find out whether anyone's commented on it?

I discovered this when I posted a message about animals that freeze solid which was written by Psudonyms. I was surprised at his prolific production of guide entries and wondered how he could ever keep up with the conversations that must attach to so many entries. Have I missed something? Is there an easy way for the authors of guide entries to know there's a message for them without actually opening each entry page to check?

I think they have to keep checking their guide entries/entry. That's what I do.

Thanks. I thought that was probably how it worked. Just wondered if (and hoped) there was an easier way. smiley - smiley

Don't think so, sorry. You could try asking someone who knows everything, though.

GOD

I'm afraid it's something of a bug onsite... smiley - smiley

The best policy is generally to post a thread to any guide entries and journals and hopefully visitors will post there... smiley - smiley

Ah ha! So! If it's regarded as a bug, it'll be sorted out sooner or later.

Thank GOD - almighty smiley - winkeye
