Hi, everybody! I'm from Texas, USA. I just joined this thing, and I've also just started reading the Trilogy--gonna read all five during Christmas break.
Hello back!
Roadrunner Posted Dec 2, 1999
Hi Baker, the name's Tom, I hail from Manchester in the UK and I'm a slightly seasoned researcher for h2g2 so I thought I'd be the first to welcome you and also take the oppotunity to say....hi!
PS. I've only read the four part trilogy...twice
Hello back!
Luna(Queen of Hearts) Posted Dec 3, 1999
Hi, Baker.
Just popped in to welcome you, also.
I'm not an official greeter, just very friendly.
I've only been here a couple of weeks myself, but I'm hooked!
Everyone is friendly, and willing to help you out when you need it.
I currently in Ohio, but I lived in Longview, Texas for a year when I was in High school.

Hello back!
Luna(Queen of Hearts) Posted Dec 3, 1999
Oh, God! I just realized it was twenty years ago.
In 1979, from Sept.-Mar.
I may have met your mom or dad, if they grew up there,of course.
I was in the tenth grade.
My brother was a Senior.
Hey, that reminds me. Do you know any LLoyds? He ran around with a guy named Mike LLoyd.
Give me time, I'll remember more. We traveled alot back then. My dad built Draglines, so whever coal was mined, we went.
If this ole' ladies nostalgia bores you, please feel free to say so.

Luna(Queen of Hearts) Posted Dec 3, 1999
They were big rivals with Longview High when I was there.
Are they still?
Hello back!
Baker Posted Dec 3, 1999
In basketball, volleyball, etc. they still are. Of course, football's all that matters in TX , and Longview's lots bigger than PT, so we don't play them anymore in football.
Hello.
Pastey Posted Dec 3, 1999
Hello as well!
I wonder when any of the official greeters will get here?
How do you like h2g2 so far?
Settling in okay?
Hello.
Baker Posted Dec 3, 1999
Yeah, it's nice. I'm in the process of writing a Guide entry on Longview.
Hello.
Pastey Posted Dec 3, 1999
That's where you live isn't it?
Don't rush the entry. Take your time. I good idea is to look at entries on other places that have been accepted as aproved entries. See the style and the content. And then write.
I'm one of the voluntary SubEds here and you wouldn't belive the amount of articles we get on places that are literally just telling you where the place is. Not what it has to offer.
I hope it goes well
Hello.
The Ghost Of TV's Frink Posted Dec 4, 1999
Hello Baker! I know a few other ACEs have posted a message on your page, but I noticed none had made it to this forum - and I'm also living in Texas right now. I'm way down in Corpus Christi. I've only been here for a little over a year - I previously lived in Denver and various places in Illinois.
I liked the article you submitted about Longview, although I'm sure there is more you could write about the town. Pastey's idea about reading other approved entries is right on the money, so you might want to take a look round. I can point you towards a few "place" articles I've enjoyed, if you want.
Your application for the softball team has been accepted (as is every application ) and I will put your name in the roster as soon as I finish this message.
Once again, welcome to H2G2, and feel free to ask me or any of the other ACEs if you need some help finding your way around.

Where is everyone?
Roadrunner Posted Dec 4, 1999
Hi everyone, Tom again. I just thought I,d make a query about why everyone is ignoring me. After all, I was kind to write a welcome to Baker at the beginning. It's just that I've too busy to carry out a conversation with anybody. Please reply. Please.
Where is everyone?

My Guide entry
Baker Posted Dec 5, 1999
I recently added a lot to my 'Longview, Texas, USA' guide entry (including a gratuitous plug for my aunt's restaurant/gift shop). Please post any comments or suggestions under this subject line.
Thanks ,
Baker
My Guide entry
The Ghost Of TV's Frink Posted Dec 5, 1999
Your Longview article is much improved, Baker! Have you been checking out some of the approved guide entries? You seem to have the formula (as such) figured out.
I was confused by a recent article in the Corpus Christi Caller-Times that indicated Texans were generally in favor of gun control (depending on how you read the poll results). Personally, I don't buy it for a second - the only gun control they want is to have personal control of as many guns as possible.
