Excellent list of quotes. Let's see if we can add some more (not necessarily famous but certainly my favoutites):

What are you doing, Dave?
- 2001

Musn't have you going off half-cocked.
- Roger Moore as Bond to (possibly) Jane Seymour

Smile you son of a bitch
- Jaws

If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.
- Obi Wan in Star Wars

I shall think about it tomorrow, for tomorrow is another day
- Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With The Wind

What's bonking?
It's like table tennis, but with slightly smaller balls.
- Four Weddings And A Funeral

I demand to be have some booze.
- Withnail And I

I've got something to say; it's better to burn out that to fade away.
- Highlander

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust. If you don't take it out and use it, it's going to rust.
- Highlander II

Frying tonight.
- Carry On Screaming

and my favourite of all time (but you really need to see the film)

Hello. My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die.
- Mandy Patinkin as Inigo in The Princess Bride

There are plenty more, but I can't remember them all at the moment. I'll send some later if anyone wants them.

Cheers

Hi Wolfie, thanks for your quotes. Somewhere in the dusty vaults of the BBC are the forums (fora?) associated with this article, no doubt awaiting 'moderation' by the... erm, moderators.
There are a host of other quotes which also spawned 'Cliche Film Quotes' and I included a number of them in the 'Directors Cut' which is on the original version here... http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A137945
Jimi X has the official page under update at the moment so some of the above may well find their way into the guide.
When/if the fora are resurrected they may be worh a visit. Also recommended is the 'Cliche Quotes' but I haven't found the page No yet. I'll get back to you when I do.
All the best A.M.smiley - bigeyes

You stole my Princess Bride quote! i was going to post that very one....no, really....I was! smiley - smiley

How about these:

Inigo to Fazini: "You keep using that word; I do not think it means what you think it means."

Inigo: "Who are you?"
Wesley: "No one of consequence."
Inigo: "I must know."
Wesley: "Get used to disappointment."
Inigo: "O.K."

Inigo: "I have some rope up here, but I did not think you would accept my help, since I am just waiting around to kill you."
Wesley: "That does put a damper on our relationship."

There are SO many more, but I suppose I should get back to work.

Roundley The Terminator

And then there's:
"He's not dead. He's just mostly dead. There's a big difference. ... If he's dead, you go through his pockets looking for change."
-- Billy Crystal in Princess Bride

Or:
"If only we had a wheelbarrow and a Holocaust cloak, we might be able to do something."
-- Dread Pirate Roberts (lately revived)

Roundley The Terminator

Here are some quotes that frame my life (in no particular order):

"You will soon learn that I am not a man with whom to f**k!"
-- Bill Paxton to Winona Ryder in Aliens 4

And another from Aliens 4
Bill Paxton (?): "You fought these things before. What happened?"
Ripley: "I died."

Then there's an old favourite from Buckaroo Bonzai across the 8th Dimension
Buckaroo Bonzai: "Tell him 'Yes' on one, and 'No' on two."
-- In answer to the question: "The president is asking have quashed the alien threat or should he go ahead and blow up the planet?"

Or from Terminator:
"He'll find her. He'll kill her. That's what he does. That's ALL he does."
-- Michael Biehn to the security camera in his police cell

"Sarah Connor?!"
-- Arnie

Or from Tank Girl:
"It's been swell, but the swellings gone down."
-- Tank Girl herself

Don't get me started on Monty Python:
Black Knight: "It's only a flesh wound."
King Arthur: "I've cut your arm off!"
Black Knight: "I've had worse!"
King Arthur: "Oh, you liar."
-- Holy Grail

"Dennis, there's some lovely filth over here!"
-- Autonomous collective worker

"Listen mate, strange women lying in ponds, distributing swords is no basis for a system of government. Supreme executive power derives from a mandate from the masses, not some farcical aquatic ceremony. I mean, if I went around calling myself King just because some mositened bint lobbed a scimitar at me, they'd put me away. "
-- Autonomous collective farm worker (Dennis)

Gorky Park -- Great movie often under-rated:
"Three faceless corpses in Gorky Park. Who knows where this could lead?"

Some others:
"We're on a mission from God!"
-- Blues Brothers

"I have come here today to chew bubble gum and kick arse. And I'm all out of bubble gum!"
-- They're Here (I think--can't remember the film title as well as I can remember the scene)

"I hate this place, this zoo, this prison, this reality; whatever you call it. It's the smell; if there is such a thing. I can't stand it. You stink and I feel immersed in it, suffocating. I must get out of it. And in this mind is the key."
-- Agent Smith to Morpheus, The Matrix

I'm disappointed that I can remember so few when tested.
:o)

I've just read back over my first posting to this thread and I can't believe that I forgot to include:

You're gonna need a bigger boat!
- Jaws

And some others:

The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn't exist.
- Usual Suspects

Why shouldn't we cross the streams Egon?
It would be bad.
I'm a little fuzzy on this whole good / bad thing.
- Ghostbusters

Ok, so she's a dog!
- Ghostbusters

But is the FBI in the habit of cleaning up after multiple murder?
Yes. Why do you thinks its run by a man called Hoover?
- Clue

(In fact, the whole script from Clue has to be one of my favourite quote sources of all time. I won't bore you with them all now, but if you haven't seen the film, I recommend it.)

It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
- Rocky Horror Picture Show

Man, this suits hot I'm tellin' ya.
- Elvis 68 Comeback Special (not strictly a film, but a classic moment)

Give him a sedagive!
- Young Frankenstein

Igor, will you help me with the bags?
Certainly. You take the blond, I'll take the one in the turban!
- Young Frankenstein

I may be stupid, but I'm not BLOODY stupid.
- Juggernaut

Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow. But soon. And for the rest of your life.
- Casablanca

You know how to whistle, don't you Steve? You just put your lips together and blow.
- To Have and Have Not.

And I think that's about it for now. Can't think of any more just at the moment. Enjoy.

And I was reminded last night--Fyling High! (in some places released as Airplane!, I think)

"Surely, you can't be serious"
"I am serious, and stop calling me Shirley"

"It's from Headquarters"
"Headquarters, what is it?"
"Well, it's a big building where generals hang out, but that's not important right now"

Captain Roger Unger: "You ever been in a cockpit before, boy?"
Small boy passenger: "No"
CRU: Do you know why they call it a cockpit?"
SBP: "No"
CRU: "You ever been in a Turkish Bath?"
SBP: "No"
CRU: "You ever seen a man naked?"
SBP: "No"

"He's in the hospital"
"The hospital, what is it?"
"Well, it's a big building where doctors hang out, but that's not important right now."

"MAYDAY! MAYDAY!"
"Mayday! What is it?"
"Well, it the first day of the Russian New Year, and was a historic harvest festival ..."

"Here, what can you make of this weather report?"
"Well, I could make a brooch, or a hat, or a butterfly..."

"Looks like I picked a bad day to give up smoking."
(Later) "Looks like I picked a bad day to give up amphetamines."
(Later still) "Looks like I picked a bad day to stop sniffing glue."

"What a p****r!"

For anyone who *hasn't* seen The Princess Bride smiley - yikes, the quote about the Rodents in Infinite Improbability's post was uttered by Wesley (Carey Elwes smiley - smiley)less than a second before being attacked by one.

Robin Hood: Men in Tights
Blinken, Robin's blind servent, falls from a tree--
'I CAN SEE!'-walks into tree
'No, I was wrong...'

'A black sherriff?!'
'It worked in "Blazing Saddles."'

'Fix your boobs! You look like a b******g Picasso.' Achoo (or Little John, not sure which) to Blinken, in disguise to rescue Robin

'We're men, we're men in tights...' The Song

'It is the key to the greatest treasure in all the land!' Robin (Carey Elwes), after learning that a key bequeathed to him fits Maid Marion's chastity belt...
