Puzzling Quest

Hey, all. Been a while.

It's been busy for me, hence my lack of hereness. Nothing special, just the ordinary boring stuff of finding/keeping jobs, and trying hard to get some reasonable writing done.

Those here who know me probably know of my hopeless addiction to puzzles, and can probably understand why Perplex City appealed so strongly to me when it came out (I'm still trying to fix my DS so that I can justify buying Prof. Layton.) Anyway, one recent writing exercise that I've just finished was an attempt to drop puzzles into a story in such a way that they don't feel as if they've been wrongly shoved into place.

Realistic puzzles happen all the time in real life, though rarely are they presented in a manner that makes us think "Oh, it's a puzzle." Police forensics labs do it all the time, as do mathematicians, physicists and scientists of every nature. Linguistics, too (I think the Rosetta Stone is one of the neatest "real life puzzles" ever stumbled upon.) And let's not forget cryptologists and covert code breakers.

But none of those are really fun and relaxing. They're big, hard work which is why people get the big bucks for them. I'm not sure what the best way to make casual puzzles mesh smoothly with a story environment is, but the method I picked was to just totally saturate the environment with them. I do not believe my attempt was entirely successful.

However, I wound up with a story, and I thought I'd show it to you. Now, I didn't realize at the time that the welovepuzzles website I intended to upload it tohas a 24-hour rule about uploading, so you're only supposed to be able to upload 5 movies at a time. Somehow the system didn't notice me and allowed my to upload 6, but it wouldn't permit any others after.

So, I give you The Quest: Parts 1-6. Parts 7-11 will be released, I hope, within the next ten hours or so. Only time will tell...

And then 24 hours after that, parts 12 and 13.

Enough prattling from me, here ya go.
