Would it be worth mentioning that 'HMS Holland I', though built in the UK, was designed by Irish/American submarine pioneer John Philip Holland? He also designed such submarines as Holland I and Holland II (both on display at the Paterson Museum in New Jersey), Holland III, Holland IV, Holland V and USS Holland as well as HMS Holland 1, HMS Holland 2, HMS Holland 3, HMS Holland 4 and HMS Holland 5. He seems a very modest fellow.

Incidentally though ship names should be in italics, any prefixes - such as HMS, USS, ORP, RMS, SMS, BBC, TTFN or SWALK – remain in normal text.smiley - ok

Thanks for reading smiley - biggrin

Your expertise in this is much appreciated - I have corrected the italics smiley - ok

I also added in mention of Holland - yes, modest smiley - winkeye leading to a straightforward yet confusing naming convention...

I think it definitely is worth a visit, but this isn't one of my entries Bobsmiley - tongueout. I must admit when I visited I did consider writing about it, but I didn't and it makes sense for Sasha to write about it as Sasha has the advantage of being able to compare it to t'other submarine museum, U-Boat Story.

Would you consider adding a link to A87937618 in the second paragraph?

Good Entry.
Maybe include a date in the main text to place Holland 1 in time?
Which of the several Hollands was the first to be commissioned appears to be disputed, with diving websites claiming that distinction for Holland 5 (which lies off Sheerness).
More certain ground might be to describe Holland 1 as the first submarine ordered by the RN, and/or the first naval submarine built in the UK?
