Dogfest 2017

I had planned to spend the weekend in a field with thousands of hairy slobbering beasts...but couldn't make this years Farmyard Party biker rally. Instead we spent the Sunday in a field with thousands of hairy slobbering beasts!

Dogfest 2017 in the beautiful grounds of Arley Hall Cheshire. Thirty degree heat and Fathers Day didn't stop the crowds turning out in force.

Dogs (and owners) of all descriptions wandered around the stalls, watched the displays, shows and presentations in the vast arena. Shade trees aplenty and everywhere drinks and paddling pools to help keep the furry ones cool.

There were also several "have a go" events for pooches including doggy diving, agility courses, hay races, fly ball and temptation alleys.

Little Opie had a fine old time putting the family through its agility and obedience tricks, poor love is still knackered but enjoyed socialising with dogs of all makes and models, even won a rosette on his first go at the puppy agility course!

Supervet Noel Fitzpatrick was on stage giving his unique (if slightly preachy for my tastes) lectures on canine and human co-existence and health. A very passionate man obviously.

Highlights of the show for me , apart from spending such a fun time with my family, were the giant dog agility displays and the police and rescue dogs doing their thing.

If you are in the Hertfordshire area next weekend, Dogfest moves to Knebworth for the second show on 24/25 June. If you can , buy an advanced entry ticket online, as it saves nearly half on the price for a family of four!

A great day out if your a canine lover, all the dogs were brilliantly behaved and extremely good tempered despite the heat. The show ground kept remarkably clean and tidy too.

One downside, although there were catering stalls to suit every taste from vegan to grilled ostrich, be aware as at any festival, you are a captive audience and the prices are a little on the steep side. A picnic would be the cheaper option.

Sorry I missed the rally but all in all being bikeless for the weekend wasn't that ruff!

FWR.
