One of those very rare days when my wife and I were actually off work at the same time.
Even rarer the kids were out at friends at the same time.
Stupidly rare that no housework, shopping or other chores needed doing.
An actual day of leisure together...and it was sunny and warm.
"Fancy a run?" Asks the missus.
Wow, couldn't remember the last time we'd been on the bike together. Could be in Wales in an hour.
"That'd be great love!" I beamed back.
The wife went to get ready, I ducked out to the garage, checked the bike, dusted off her helmet and retrieved her bike boots from the depths of the hall cupboard. Could be in the Lakes in two.
Bike sorted I sprinted upstairs to get the leathers on and hit the road. Scotland in three or four hours if we took it easy!
My heart sank and grin faded as I entered our bedroom. Wife sat on the edge of the bed, lacing up her training shoes, resplendent in sports gear.
"Really looking forwards to a run together, fancy a five k round the park?"
How could I refuse that smile?
Oh dear. Better get changed!

Walkers are runners -- they're just a bit slower, that's all.
