You could mention that software such as spam filters and pop-up blockers can be used to avoid these scams.

Yeah, but the ad's i'm talking about are actually a part of the page itself, pop-up blocker's and spam filters do nothing to take those out.

The stars after every occurance of the word 'free' get in the way, perhaps an explanatory footnote at the first occurance would do?

Thanks for the suggestion. I took out all the stars after the free's except the last one.
