Hi there. smiley - smiley
I just dropped in to say that I noticed that on the list of members, my name is wrong. It says candonip24, which is just an anagram of my real name. I must have joined during Halloween or whenever when a lot of people, including me, were mixing up their names. I just thought I'd mention that, if you could please change it to 42donpanic?

Thanks smiley - cheers

Hiya..

I am a fanatical lover of all things Beatles (and Merseybeat) but being 48 am just too young to have experienced it 1st hand. Though my dad did teach Paul M and (maybe) George H at the Institute. Latin of all subjects!!!!

Anyway, I was a little peturbed to see that the song 'Twist and Shout' seems to be an important theme in the Liverpool 2008 experience. The Beatles only did a cover version of this (very good!), motown number ,and they and their fellow creatives have so much more original stuff to offer this special year.

1) Obviously - Gerry Marsden and.... the.. 'Fairy Across the Mersey' (hey in the late 60s and early 70s Blackpool FC were still a proper football club then and we did chant that for about 2 seconds b4 being buried in a wall of Anfield/Goodison sound).

2) Penny Lane... Strawberry Fields... etc... but the one that really sums up, with a pop/rock Merseybeat for me is, 'She was just 17'. The, oh so perceptive, theme for generations past and those to come.

3)When Norff London get the award I will bore u wiv Kinks and maybe even Kenny & Madness!!! Nah lets stick to the local Palais and Jam and Jerusalem.

4) Hopefully Manchester will be next and we can bathe in the brilliant sounds of the Hollies. The group the Beach Boys falied to become.

Andy

Your dad taught Paul and George!!!! smiley - wow

I'll get you added to our merry little band.

They did do Twist and Shout brilliantly, but you're right - they wrote *so* much of their own stuff and it was fantastic, it seems odd to pick a cover they did to be a theme. Why not Penny Lane or In My Life or something.
