h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

I've just been banished from the kitchen for being too dirty, even though Yarreau isn't usually what you'd call houseproud.

You may remember that kitchen from previous journals. This time, we're converting the *old* kitchen to a library, because the house is overflowing with books.

We've already dismantled the kitchen furniture and carried it out to various barns, and knocked the tiles and some loose plaster off the walls.

Now comes the really fun part - getting rid of the ceiling! It was covered in horrible styrofoam tiles and so low that my brother-in-law could put his hand flat on it while sitting down. But there are a good 25cm of height and a few lovely rustic beams to be won by pulling it all down.

It's not every day you get to take a pickaxe to the ceiling. But hanging off the plasterboard with both hands and shouting "RRAAAAAWR" until it comes down is even better.

Oh, well, I'd better go see whether I can at least get a cup of tea and a slice of cake if I show up in my bathrobe...

The ceiling is all pulled down, just need to remove the wooden joists they had holding it up. But it's too dark to do that now.

Turns out they did all that just to hide a single hole

Nonsense, its much more fun to remove supports without the aid of light

No, the old kitchen is the room that you had to pass through in order to get to the one where you slept (at least I seem to remember you had the Sistabarista's room, the one right above Mala's). But, coming to think of it, wasn't that still the kitchen when you were here?

Yeah, I was in the Sistabarista's room. I'm not sure it's fair to say I slept there, though - it was kinda hard to sleep with Cap'n Jack Sparrow leering at me from every wall!

The rusty old water pipe that leads water in to my house is being replaced with a brand new one come Monday

I have been threatened by said old pipe to have my basement flooded - WITH WATER I PAY FOR!

I snitched on the pipe to the municipality, that did the trick

TC, it was one using animated 'Mr. Spud' type characters, black and white, and think it may have been the original.
