I'm getting really, really tired of all these announcements that "hootoo isn't what it used to be - I'm LEAVING! ".
It's in a period of transition. Most of the people who make it a really good site aren't here much at the moment because they're working very, very hard behind the scenes to ensure that we have a new place to go and a way to get there. And yes, that means the site has a lot of trolls blowing about among the empty crisp packets at the moment.
So either start sweeping them up, or help get the new place ready. All this "I'm bored and the cool kids don't talk to me anymore!" is not constructive. Or just take a hootoo holiday for a bit (just keep checking the announcements, please) and come back when it's all over. But we don't have the time and energy to keep begging you to stay.

Do you have anyone in particular in mind?

No - just saw your journal, and it's not directed at you in particular, if that's what you're worried about.
It just seems that most of the new conversations cropping up in my list these days are variants on the theme of "I'm leaving (unless enough of you ask me to stay)".

Its doing my nut in too Too many conversations about* the site, about* the new site... and not enough conversations on* the site... we need more normal conversations... well, I do of course use the word 'normal' in its broadest adn incorrect sense, to include the surreal strange and plain weird)

Agreed, everyone is very twitchy, aren't they? It sort of reminds me of when you have kids in the back of the car on a long journey and they start squabbling
'Are we nearly there yet?' 'he's got more space than me' and my dad saying - 'If you two don't stop it, you can both get out and walk!'

Much wailing, whining and wringing of hands "Its all going to be different"
I'm hanging in there in the background

Well I'm off unless at least one of you tells me I'm too important to lose, and that the new place will just be an empty shell without my sparkling wit, and insightful insightfulness !!
And.......
It's my ball, and I will taking it with me

I agree entirely, Mala. At the best of times there is too much navel-gazing goes on here, but now it's inflated and boring. So much is being said that even the trolls are up to their eyes in packets, and it's hard to find any actual - or little nuggets of real information. Having met and spoken to Z last weekend I feel I know all I need to know and any further discussion - except for sensible, useful suggestions - is just clogging up the convo lists.

I'm not leaving, either. I may have less time to spend here than ever, but I'm not going away- at least not till I have given the new home a fair chance. Honestly, I don't get why certain people are so riled up that they're acting the way they are- it's just a web site and it doesn't sound like it's going to be a super-different one.

Yay, you guys. That's the way. Don't fire until you see the whites of their eyes...whatever.
I'm afraid that when it comes to scintillating conversation, I've got to be with you in spirit this week. But that's just work. Until I've written those people another 10,000 words, I can't come out and play.
But you're spot on. h2g2 is going to be there, so why not keep having fun?

I can't say I've seen people say they're leaving (maybe a few did, I don't remember). And there must be people working behind the scenes who I've never heard of, because all those I know are either making the usual amount of posts here, or are even more active than usual.
