It pays to have connections...
Malabarista - now with added pony Started conversation Feb 19, 2008
Ten weeks after I went into hospital now, and many, many phone calls later, they still haven't sent me any results.
My mother told one of my uncles this. He was quite cross. He also happens to have an acquaintance who works in the hospital. He's contacted her, and she had a look in my file for me...
So. They've had my report since December 21st, they just "forgot" to send it out. And they "couldn't find it" when my doctor called, and faxed, and wrote, and I called, and...
The aquaintance confronted the doctor, who was most apologetic and blamed it on the oncology department. Apparently, there will be some kind of internal consequences, but those don't need to concern me.
What's important is what was in the report. It's harmless. No tumour, just a toxoplasmosis infection that's progressing abnormally. They even sent the samples to a specialist lab to confirm that. If it doesn't go away by itself, they can do something about it.
Now I can fly off on my one-month field trip without worrying about it...

It's disgusting how people look for an excuse and blame others. I hope these internal consequences don't harm the acquaintance much. I'm pleased for you that all has come well and you can enjoy yourself.

Great news, just a pity that they didn't have a working filing system in the first place so you could have known ages ago Give the toxoplasmosis a stern talking to from me and tell it to clear off

Is there an official complaints system you coul exploit?
I mean, if you hadn't known people who knew people... And all those people who dont have contacts, or are vulnerable for whatever reason.
Bloody caring professionals... Sorry, I know plenty of carers and nurses etc and they are lovely people for the most part, and dedicated, but when people fall through the net, boy do they fall!

Yes, it's utterly ridiculous - especially considering how often we went and asked! Just imagine it *had* been something dangerous, and I'd have been waiting two months with no news...
But at the moment I'm too busy being to be

I'm glad to hear that you've got your results at last, and that the diagnosis was not cancer or anything.
Though toxoplasmosis- eek!

As long as I'm not pregnant, there's nothing dangerous about it. I'm only surprised that it seems to have come from our new kittens - I assumed I'd be resistant by now, having lived with cats since I was eight - up to 30 semiferal barn cats at once, too

Good news indeed. As about toxoplasmosis, good to have it now than when you happen to be pregnant. It won't come back. Funny that it showed out at all. I know I had it without any symptoms (or cats).

Great stuff! Shame they couldn't have given you the relief all that time ago, but still. Glad to hear it's nothing worse.
That lucky pyramid clock is starting to work already!

I hope the clock isn't lucky, then I can never get rid of it!
Elentari - it's a field trip to the US, we're visiting San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York. The land of no health insurance, so I was happy to have this settled before then

I've got fantastic health insurance. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to use it to treat you.
Meanwhile, I'm looking forward to your brief visit to Chicago! Provided I don't wind up sick or mortally wounded between now and then...
