do i understand this right? you can have an american flag on your underpants but a homeless person couldn't put two holes in it and make a pair of quick and fancy trousers? or maybe a tent.

So what? Ostentatiously wearing national emblems on any part of one's body is usually considered the preserve of people who's concept of patriotism largely revolves around hating foreigners. Ask anyone in Cross of St George t-shirt for his views on Europe if you don't believe me.
