Yeah, it's only actually the big names that charge such ridiculous amounts for their gigs. It's still possible to see quality bands without breaking the bank, you just need to think beyond the famous ones!

Bands coming home from an US tour fly via Hannover and perform for free and a few (well, rather a few)
