What's been the reaction in Germany to the Ecclestone case? Are people angry? Are the politicians getting involved?

I don't know about Germany, but I can tell you what the reaction is here in the US....

Nineveh capital of ancient Assyria, that some believe potentially holds historiographic clues to Abrahamic religion, is now in line for destruction by a "fundamental" "Abrahamites" group of young men (and not so young men) with dynamite toys, well funded allegedly by S. Arabian petrodollars (etc) and Western taxpayers money (anti-Assad rebel support etc), under the banner of a form of Sunni Islam:

Not exactly news, but I just came across this

http://www.wired.com/2014/08/this-hackers-radio-can-fry-your-hair-dryer/

I wonder has it anything to do with the story I came across twenty years ago, that using a mobile phone near a petrol pump can interfere with the counter.

I had always assumed that that was behind the otherwise senseless prohibition on phones at petrol stations. Sparks my hat.

Possible safeguards, build the susceptible device inside a Faraday box connected to a third ground wire.

For cables, use coax cables with only the inner core wire connected into the circuit, connecting the outer sheath to a third ground wire.

UKIP MEP pilloried for saying the un-sayable (but true).

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-28729098

I don't think he was espousing the philosophy of Hitler, merely pointing out that he had a style of oratory that enthused millions. Notwithstanding that what he said was vile. Hitler himself studied the techniques used in opera.

I'm not a UKIP supporter and don't support UKIP policy, but I'm a bit fed up with them getting bashed by people who really DID understand what was being said but choose to spin it otherwise.

They are politically inept from time to time of course.

Hitler's speaking voice often reminds me of the rock and roll musician Chubby Checker, a comparison I think neither would find flattering.

The quality of Hitler's voice, though, did account for a great deal of his charisma.

Oh dear.

I have a VERY tasteless re-write of 'let's Twist Again' going on in my head.

This really calls for one of those youtube mash-ups.

If true, yet another instance of disgusting behavior in the name of religion.

Yes, but those 500 women and children were also religious ... and if religion is evil - isn't having less religious people a good thing in the long run smiley - shrug

I didn't say that religion was evil.

Some adherents to religion are and do evil things in the name of that religion.

(And before anyone is moved to one of Hootoo's legendary religion bashing fests, there are plenty of evil non-religious people out there too.)

Agreed PP.

People may do evil things in the name of religion, but people also do evil things in the name of money and boredom.

Religion isn't evil, people are. No religion says to go out and kill people, so before blaming the religion, look who's actually doing the killing.

"Religion isn't evil, people are. No religion says to go out and kill people, so before blaming the religion, look who's actually doing the killing."

This, this and again this. One thing I'm so, so sick of hearing from so-called rational athesists is how religion is at its core evil and corrupting. It's one of the reasons I gave up on His Dark Materials. Religion is a concept, a tool, and so any evil comes from how it is used rather than the thing itself. It's no more inherently evil than a kitchen knife used in a murder is.
