"The government is telling councils to stop asking questions about people's sexuality, race and health in surveys. The move follows a series of high-profile cases where councils demanded personal information from individuals who signed up for services. These included libraries in Islington, north London, asking people registering to borrow books if they had cancer, HIV, or diabetes and whether they were transgender. The Department for Communities and Local Government said that its one-page statutory guidance replaces "the 56 pages of John Prescott's so-called 'Best Value' guidance"

I see Turkey has 'dumped' Israel ostensibly over their refusal to say sorry over that ill-fated nautical raid they performed. Or were Turkey only too happy to fall in with the other Arab nations?

Ivan the Terribly Average

Turks aren't Arabs.

Downgrading relations with a foreign state over illegal and cretinous actions taken by that state seems perfectly reasonable.

Why is an Islamist member of a terrorist group banned in Europe allowed to be an Imam in a London Mosque?

"Imam killed after morning prayer in Finsbury Park" - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-14774251

Of course the BBC doesn't give much information. So -

"A member of Lebanon's Jamaa al-Islamiya group was shot and killed in London on Friday, the National News Agency reported. The NNA said that an unknown assailant shot and killed Sheikh Maymoun Zarzour. It added that the victim was an Islamist activist and was an Imam at a mosque in Britain."

Jamaa al-Islamiya? Who they? From Wiki -

"Al-Gama'a al-Islamiyya (Arabic for "the Islamic Group"; also transliterated Gamaat Islamiya, al Jamaat al Islamiya, and El Gama'a El Islamiyya) is an Egyptian Islamist movement, and is considered a terrorist organization by the United States, European Union[1] and Egyptian governments."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Al-Gama'a_al-Islamiyya

Finsbury Park Mosque is where Abu Hamza preached and where Police discovered a cache of weapons and terrorist training materials in 2003 http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article728162.ece

So why on earth are extremists still allowed to be active in Finsbury Park?

>> It's positive thinking, plus instructions, says lead author <<

The author is a prof at a Greek University.
I therefore suspect his approach is both Platonic
and quite temporal. ie: based on current Greek politics
and economies of scale.

A TWISTED brother and sister are facing jail after they were spotted having sex in a train station lift.
Richard Finlayson, 21, and sibling Kirsty, 18, romped in the elevator as they were filmed by CCTV cameras.

http://www.thescottishsun.co.uk/scotsol/homepage/news/3792109/Brother-and-sister-in-lift-sex.html

I wonder why the brother is being put on the sex offenders register, but the sister isn't?

Tourist complains about sight of fish in harbour

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/8743065/Tourist-complains-about-sight-of-fish-in-harbour.html

The 46-year-old was outraged that his children, aged seven and nine, had been forced to endure the sight of 12 crates of dead fish and crabs, piled up on the quayside.
He said the ordeal had left them “quite distressed” and demanded to know why the harbourmaster was not more considerate to tourists

David Copp...a man whiose kids really should be taken into care for their own good if this is the sort of thing their father believes is something worth complaining..,.possibly the fact that he is being derided in a national newspaper may bring him to his senses although someone who actually complains about dead fish on a harbour is probably past the point of any self-awareness anyway.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2011/sep/07/live-music-pubs-licence-bands

"Pubs and clubs wanting to offer live music would no longer be forced to apply to the local council for an entertainment licence under a planned deregulation aimed at supporting grassroots music.

The proposal is part of a government consultation to be unveiled by John Penrose, the tourism and heritage minister, amid warnings that small venues have been abandoning live music because of the bureaucracy introduced by the 2003 Licensing Act."

About time to...only in the UK would you get local/government putting easy ways to make profit before encouraging live music and getting people into bars and pubs.

Why do people see that policy as discriminatory rather than a clinical judgment based on risk assessment?
