I think the Brish have been "snoozing" and "dozing" long before the War of Independance. Don't know if that's what we called it.

Why are there "forty winks" ?

?

How long is 1 wink, for that matter?

Snoozing is of unknown origin (according to my sources) and dozing has Scandanavian roots. It seems likely that before the war of independence the British were all napping - as it is only reasonably recently that this has changed from meaning a full sleep to meaning a short sleep.

Should we all now abandon the Sequel and rush over here, or should be post a "Do Not Disturb" sign here and continue in the Sequel?

And any bets on how long before we get an explanation of the phrase about canines' gonads?

Gadzooks! This thread has been dangling since Jan 2001?! I don't mean to pick nits, but it seems you folks haven't exhausted the topic of incongruities between English and "American"??? I'd better start at the beginning, cut & paste for copius notes, and steal all the ideas for my thesis.

Kittens play with balls of string...
These postings are composed of threads...
Certainly they're all intertwined...
But there's no conspiracy theory associated with any of this, Miss. So move along, please. Nothing to see here. Trust me, I'm with the government.
