mobile phone texting probs

I'm not really here

My mobile doesn't seem to be receiving text messages - has anyone else had this problem? It sends them out fine, but nothing is coming in. I've sent one to myself and that came in ok, and I'm waiting for someone else to send me a message when she can so that I can test to see if it's just one person.

I can't get any messages from my boyfriend, I feel so lonely and unloved. smiley - wah

It happens to me sometimes for a little while then suddenly clears up. I'm on pay as you go and oddly calling someone or recieving a call/calling my top up line etc often suddenly shifts them all through. Have you tried that?

Of course, there's something to be said for good old fashioned spoken communication. smiley - tongueout

OK, I've just called out, and then called in, so maybe that will help.

Spoken communication is great as well, but I can keep text messages. smiley - biggrin

But they're so impersonal... what about handwritten love letters? They might seem a bit old fashioned and long winded in this age of Wow! Zappo! Instant Gratification! but they've got a special something which text messages can never hope to achieve.

There's a place for everything you know. I've been known to trust the Royal Mail with stuff for h2g2ers, who I can also contact by email and by text, so it's not as if texting is all I can do. It's just a nice way of keeping in touch during the day. He can't open handwritten love letters in front of his workmates, and nor can he deliver them to my door in the middle of the day.

Ah, but you also need to consider that *not* being in contact during the day makes seeing them in the evening so much nicer.

hmm, not for me. It's just boring. Most of my boyfriends over the nine years have either had mobiles or been online. Being out of contact doesn't make my heart any fonder - that's never worked for me at all. I'm sure for other people it does - I just tend to forget. smiley - laugh

It's at this point I'd like to share something I discovered about predictive text a couple of years ago.

One of my girlfriends at the time was particularly taken with the way I looked in a particular pair of trousers (try not to think about it, just go with it...). As a result I received the following text:

"I can't help thinking about your app in those trousers. Mmmm"

Now, obviously my delightful young lady had hit the key for "a" followed by the key for "s" twice... but the word she was thinking of wasn't in the predictive text dictionary, so she got "app" instead.

Jokingly I composed a reply, to gently take the mickey. It came out far, far better and funnier than I could have hoped. I won't tell you what I typed (you work it out...), but the predictive text dictionary THOUGHT I was trying to say...

"And I can't help thinking about stroking your thus while I'm kicking your puppy."

smiley - laugh

Loved that page!

A load of texts came in all at once this afternoon (six in one afternoon, amazing!). I think some have gone missing from yesterday daytime, but I got three from my loved one that I thought had been lost forever!

So you can all mock as much as you like. I'm going to be texting all night now it's all working again. smiley - bigeyes
