I knew I'd heard it in a lyric somewhere, only Cole Porter could be that smart you would think, but both Lou Reed and Mike Nesmith have written songs with ennui in the title. Lou Reed I can believe, well he bores me sick anyway, pretentious so and so, but Mike Nesmith, he was a happy little Monkee wasn't he? Anyway I hope this is Cole's verse from the intro to I get a Kick out of You, I love Ella's version but Sinatra ain't bad either!
When I'm out on a quiet spree
Fighting vainly the old ennui
And I suddenly turn and see
Your fabulous face

I've never used it in English (wasn't even aware that it counted as English) but it's indispensible in French

I learned the word from h2g2... I'm surprised you've never come across it onsite, TC!

at the moment the area i live in is being told by united utilities (our water company) to boil all water since yesterday till.... some time in the future probably next week....
I only received an email about it today, I actually found out about this through facebook, had I been someone without facebook or email I would probably still be drinking the water, there is an article about it on bbc news website and I think its been on the radio, all the shops are empty of bottled water... but i bet there are still people who dont know about it

I now have spiffy glass fibre broadband. But because of where they put the router, right by the front door in a 3 story, concrete floored house, the connection to the router is rubbish. I can't use a booster because there is only one power socket where the route is, and the router needs to be plugged into that.
So then I heard that it's possible to use a 2nd wifi router as a repeater. But to set that up I need to have multiple advanced degrees in some kind of IT.
I'm getting a bit bored of it all now.

When they came to install my fibre a few years ago they started setting it up by the front door. I soon put them right on the impracticalities of it and made them install it where I wanted it. They weren't chuffed at the extra work, but tough.

I set up a second router for our network. It wasn't too difficult once I figured out that I had damaged the cable between the two. It drove me nuts as it showed a connection but didn't have internet access. I think a few of the wires were broken when I fed it through a wall. Once I replaced the bad cable it went pretty well.

I've got us a second router, too, but after a couple of half-hearted attempts at installing it, we were stumped by the need for the administrator password for the router. I am hoping our eldest can remember it. We're skyping with him tonight - I'll ask him. My husband seems to underestimate the need for these passwords.

PP, toilet roll mis-alignment is easy to fix. You just take one offending layer and wrap it once around the roll; it brings the perforations back into sync

I'm ok with the router and the passwords etc. I'm stumped by the need to connect the new router to a PC that isn't connected to the network to set it up.
I don't even know why I need to do that, and that means I need a spare computer to be lying around. hahaha. No.
I'll see if there are any companies who can send someone round to do it.

Baron Grim Posted Aug 8, 2015
I don't think you need a spare computer. You should be able to use your usual computer. The wifi network runs independently of your computers. So you should be able to plug the new router directly into your existing computer to make the necessary set up changes. The second router doesn't have to be in its permanent location to set it up so you can do it all from next to your computer with a short ethernet cable and then move it to the desired location later.
TC, if you can't remember the current admin password, you can reset the router to factory defaults. You can find the factory password and login online if you can't find the user manual. Resetting is usually done by sticking a paperclip into a small hole on the router.

People who keep moving whatever book I am currently reading forcing me to stomp around the house looking for it, and then the culprit(s) deny all knowledge and say I left it there myself, mind games that's all it is, but they won't win, oh no they won't!
