A Conversation for Ask h2g2
where is my article ?
Steiner Started conversation Oct 12, 1999
i wrote an article about bars in goa and submitted it. this article was revised an edited
by a sub editor (smiley ben ?). but then this editor took away the original of the article and left only the edited version. in a section of the faqs something like this is discussed and it says there, that the original should be preserved (also because of the copyright which belongs to h2g2 and me !). so what i want to know is : where can i get my original article back ? i understand that the edited version fits into the framework of weird rules for submitting something, but i (!) like my writing and it is promised by the "authorities" of h2g2 that NOTHING is wasted !
where is my article ?

OK, why resurrect a 12 year old thread?
Well, I noticed lots of old threads being posted to so I thought I'd do the same and went to the earliest one...which was made on my Birthday!!!
But then I looked at the reason for the post and it was about an article about a bar/eatery in Goa and thought...a few of us have mentioned the idea about the 'new' Guide having some functionality such that a researcher going to a certain town who wanted a nice coffee or meal etc could enter the town name into some Hootoo app and get a list of places that other Hootooers have suggested and hence *must* be a good place to go...
What's the general view on these sorts of ideas to be integrated into Hootoo?
Is it too soon after the take over?
Is the 'vision' and expansion of Hootoo going to be explained on the site?
Are these things happening behind the scenes but not being mentioned in case 'competitors' nick the idea?

I would suggest to reduce the amount of work necessary for the new site by having a cut off for answering such unanswered questions.
Perhaps it would be better instead to focus on the integration / filing of the edited pages for better perusal.
I would suggest also that questions/comments arising from edited pages be flagged to a wider audience (the community) than the original author who may no longer be present - so that answers / new discussion can be made by appropriately knowledgeable members of the community.

I would suggest someone lookup the word: joke.

joke
1670, joque, "a jest, something done to excite laughter," from L. jocus "joke, sport, pastime," from PIE base *yek- "to speak" (cf. Bret. iez "language," O.H.G. jehan "to say," Ger. Beichte "confession"). Originally a colloquial or slang word. Meaning "something not to be taken seriously" is 1791. Joker,

But seriously folks, now that the search engine
is working a bit better I'd like to suggest a
further step in search capability.
How about a date search?
Future cyber-archeologists may like to know what
h2g2 was thinking on Sept 11th 2001 for example,
or June 6th, 2006, or any other specific date
that marks any significant historic event.
Of course our responses were not always immediate
of fully formed for a day or two or more after an
event - news doesn't travel as fast as we like to
think it does in cyberspace.
Such a search function would list all the new threads
started on a given date followed by threads that were
updated on the date. In the case of June 6th, 2006,
the day Zakawi was bombed out of the terror biz would
probably show no mention so you'd have to search the
7th, 8th and 9th to see any reactions.
Anyway, since so much has happened in the last decade
it seems likely that sooner or later historians will be
wanting to see comments made in h2g2 on specific dates
and the days following.

PS:
The point of a date search of course is
that because of topic drift one can't ever
rely on thread titles to reflect certain topical
