It was the worst for actionbut that doubled edged lightsabre was brilliant although im quite disapointed that Qu'gon died.

Now I've seen ACGS and was fairly disappointed. Just seemed like another b-movie. Neither the action or the romance ever got to any decent level.

I'm gonna go see if Chrouching Tiger is available with English subtitles.

Hmm.
Certainly Crouching Tiger shouldn't be a problem with English sub-titles.
I think it's interesting that so many peiople are being disappointed by HK film-making in the wake of CTHD. In Hong Kong CTHD did no business at all and was widely panned by critics and audiences.
I wonder what that says about the respective film industries and audiences of the east and west.
I also think that watching eastern films of any tyope requires patience and a certain amount of experience. They all look like b-movies but it is worth remembering that often the trick is in what they leave out-certainly that's true of the romance in Chinese Ghost Story.

I guess that means CTHD was a very western eastern movie smiley - smiley They did leave out the romance in ACGS, that was part of what I didn't like. I know the two main characters fell in love, but when? I just didn't sense any moments of anything between them. But I don't really mind it was made on a small budget, didn't make matters worse I think. Except they should have made the ghost more ghost like with some effects. But of course I don't know too much about what ghosts are like over there.

The ghost (the luminous Joey Wong smiley - bigeyes)is VERY in line with traditional Eastern beliefs.
Which also features the wonderfully bizarre 'hopping' vampires of the Mr Vampire movies.

The thing about SWII:AOTC is that the traillers reliased earlier this year depicked it as a pathetic love story with action squandered until the end, that was until now. The recent traillers depicked it as full of action and Special effects, this has changed by mind about the entire thing.

But what do I know, I'm merely a vexxy girl living in the unregarded backwaters of North Tyneside (the rich bit near the lake) which seems to miss all the vital parties. I had to travel to York yesterday to visit a HHGG party, you know. Then the party was cancelled which vexxed me more. So we decided to visit the York dungeon, thank Zarquon I used the Grand ADmiral as a blood sheild although it wasn't nessacary. Unfortually my stupid, over ape-decended life form of a brother was there. I could tell the Grand Admiral wanted to slam an axe through his head then suspend his body over an exhibet on a large metal pole, and see if anyone noticed. My brother was not a HHGG fanatic, why was he with us. He probably killed all his friends then was forced to follow us through the streets of York.

I think I went of the point abit, sorry, I just hate my brother so much!!!

To all intents and purposes the modern trend of manga can be traced back to Astroboy, yes.smiley - smiley

I saw Crying Freeman yesterday. It was quite interesting. And apparently made from a manga comic.

The live action version with Marc Dacoscos?
A fine little movie, and it manages to capture the tone of the manga very well, actually. Although it misses out the naked female eskimo assasin.smiley - laugh Possibly a good thing for the sensibilities of western audiences.smiley - winkeye
The manga was *hugely* popular in Japan.
