One fact I always took pride in was that AH was born just down the road from me, in Leytonstone, East London. The High Street always had a certain gothic charm (kind of spoilt these days by the M11 bypass!) and I like to think that the general ambience of the area inspired him a little.
Leytonstone is quite proud of one of their most famous sons. The council has just put an interactive lightshow in one of the parks, with a pavement that has random coloured tiles in it. Until you look at the pavement from a certain angle, and there's Hitch looking back at you... And let's not forget the Alfred Hitchcock pub on Whipps Cross Road, a suaitably gothic pile!

They had a rather nice exhibition on the man there for his centenery in 1999.

There are some great mosaics of his films in the entrance to the tube station as well - I always found the Suspicion and Psycho ones particulary terrifying...
